My wife and I had one of the worst bar experiences we've ever endured here. Let me begin by saying that we are not unreasonable people. We sit at the bar in restaurants we patronize more often than we sit at tables, and we are very understanding of the fact that the bartenders are responsible not only for their own guests food and drink, but are additionally responsible for all of the drinks in the whole restaurant. We are very patient when the service is slow, as long as we are treated courteously and as valued guests. That was not the case here.
I would estimate the entire restaurant will hold a maximum of 75 people. There were 3 bartenders behind the bar when we sat down, and the restaurant appeared to be at about 50% capacity. We sat there for about 5-10 minutes with the bartenders doing everything in their power to avoid making eye contact with us. At one point one of the bartenders was less than 5 feet away from us and we spoke directly to him, and yet still he ignored us. We were about to stand up and leave when the gentleman sitting next to us finally intervened for us and got the attention of the bartender who had just returned his check. The bartender begrudgingly took our drink orders, and when she gave us our drinks we asked for food menus; menus that never came.
Our new friend sitting next to us was the only good thing about this experience. I was shocked that a customer at the bar - in no way affiliated with it - felt the need to apologize for how we were being treated. We actually enjoyed our conversation with him, and he told us he used to frequent the establishment, but after it changed hands a few years ago it had declined quite a bit. He was only there because he was attending an event across the street. He recommended that we try a different restaurant a few blocks away.
Getting our check to pay proved to be almost as challenging as getting someone to acknowledge us when we sat down. We finally got someone's attention and he told us he wasn't a server... he did not offer to get one for us. We finally shouted down the bartender who made our drinks, then left the bar with a very bad taste in our mouths.
Again, we are understanding of the bartender's plight, but by way of comparison, we stopped at a restaurant in Texarkana the next day. This restaurant would seat easily 200 people, and there was a 30 minute wait for a table. Fortunately we found two seats at the bar, where we were warmly greeted by the sole bartender for this packed restaurant, and received very good service, including attention that made us feel like we were appreciated for our patronage.
In summary, I honestly do not see us returning to Capital Bar and Grill. It was very disappointing experience at a restaurant housed in a 5-star hotel. The one star this review received belongs completely to our fellow...
Read moreI grew up dining at this establishment and to say I was disappointed is an understatement. I called and made reservations for my birthday dinner, they managed to get us a table which was great or so I thought. We were seated immediately so far so good. Our server was not at all knowledgeable about the drink menu which seemed strange considering the price point. We finally managed to get a drink order in a now I was focused on dinner. I chose the fried chicken dish it came out beautiful. The presentation was gorgeous and completely covered in bugs and mites in the microgreens used as a garnish. I was extremely disappointed and disgusted. Wave the waiter over he seemed not surprised. The food was taken away immediately and a manager never came to touch the table, which is absolutely insane. He brought us a ticket for our drinks and that was the end. It was my 45th birthday I was excited to dine there I brought my favorite person in the world and someone very special to me while highly speaking on the quality of this establishment and I was completely humiliated and embarrassed. It completely ruined his experience and my birthday night due to the fact all of the other the fine dining establishments were closed so I couldn't get another reservation to save my night. Capital Bar and Grill was a terrible choice and gave me a terrible experience. I wouldn't recommend this establishment to anyone ever, this is what is known as failing up due to the reputation of quality. All I experienced was FAILURES ...
Read moreCapital Bar and Grill. It's not bad. I do enjoy the atmosphere of this restaurant. It is very nice. Very elegant and a very nice place to whine and dine. I like the size. It's not too big and it's not too small. Perfect for a date night. However, the menu. The menu should be more extensive and unique and it's offering. The items on the menu are not that exciting to me. The cooks however, seems to be very well disciplined in their culinary skills. For example, I don't like lamb. No matter how many times I try it. I just can't get past the wild game taste. It's very distinct to my palate. With that being said, the shelf did an amazing job on the braze lamb shanks. Very minimal on the taste of game or wild that you find in lamb. But it was cooked to perfection. Very moist, very tender, very juicy. Paired with the mashed potatoes and vegetables. And the sauce that they added to it was fantastic. Again, I do not like lamb but the portion the price very reasonable and also worth it. Now the dessert. I ordered two banana puddings and only received one. Yikes! Now with the banana pudding I would add as a suggestion. Provide more wafer cookies. Two is simply not enough for a banana pudding as richich as this banana pudding is. But overall I would do Capital Bar and Grill again. It is a very nice establishment. The atmosphere. The whole decor of this restaurant...
