Let me take you on an epic narrative of our dining adventure at HopCat, situated at the heart of Livonia, Michigan. Right from the warm welcome at the entrance to the last bite of dessert, the experience was anything but ordinary.
We were greeted upon arrival and shown to our table in an ambiance that got everything right – not too loud, not too dark, and filled with just the right amount of energy.
Our server, Amber, was the epitome of hospitable service, making sure we were promptly attended to, even arranging for two different hard cider samples for my wife.
I promptly chose the Old Nation M-43, a New England IPA, which was nothing less than perfect. My wife ordered a glass of Odd Brothers Los Dos hard cider.
We stoked up the appetite with the Pretzel Nuggz, a savory appetizer to ease in our taste buds. Then came the stars of the show, our burgers. The Rodeo Clown burger, my order of the night, made a grand entrance, smothered in Cheese Sauce. As promised, it demanded decorum, paving the way for a fork and knife affair. And yes, it had a serrated steak knife for company!
My wife’s choice, the Hangover Helper, could have easily been dubbed "The Big Breakfast Burger". Sold on the hash patty and a fried egg, it held its own even after she had valiantly devoured half of it!
The common thread binding these delicious monstrosities were the Cosmik Fries. Ah, the fries! Appointed as sidekicks to our burgers, they added a unique flavor twist to the meal.
For dessert, we relished in the Reese's Chocolate Pie. As someone relatively indifferent to dark chocolate, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it complemented the peanut butter mousse. A testament, indeed, to the magical pairing!
Just as we thought we were done, we couldn't help but bring home a piece of HopCat with us. The branded pint-glasses, embossed with the notable HopCat logo, were too charming to resist and now hold a special place in our kitchen.
HopCat Livonia was more than just a food stopover for us - it was a culinary celebration savored in an extraordinary atmosphere. The realization of unforgettable flavors and memories. We’re already looking forward to our return visit, and yes, more...
Read moreCame on Saturday, and the place was empty. That should have been our first hint. A group of six seemed to be too much for both the hostess and the waitress to handle. I'm not sure if it was both of their first days, but neither one knew how to communicate. The hostess just walked away from us, not even saying a word, and when we followed her, she was like Oh no, just wait at the front... oh... ok? The whole place was empty so I don't know why she was searching so hard for a place to put us. Our waitress was not very friendly, took our order, and then vanished after we had our drinks. A runner brought out our food, and she still was nowhere to be found. 15 minutes into eating, she did come around though and asked if we needed anything else and totally ignored all of our empty drinks, and we had to ask her for them. One of our party never got a refill. Not one. That same person ordered a side of fries that we had to remind her twice about. They came out so fresh that I knew she forgot them and asked the kitchen to make them on the fly. Which is fine, but I don't seem to see you doing anything else, so what's the problem? Three of us at the table ordered Caesar salads, and they were more like Caesar salad soup - so much dressing that they were completely inedible, although the waitress never inquired why three people barely touched their food. Two of us also ordered soup that was not even warm. Forget hot- it was barely room temperature. And not even 1/2 of a cup for $5??? She never came back to check on us for us to complain anyway. Until she brought our bills. She then was at our table a lot taking each bill up individually seemed like that was all she cared about. After we all paid our bill and sat chatting, she still never came back to check on us even though she made a nice fat tip for her complete lack of service. I will never be back to any HopCat location again, but especially not this one. What a horrible choice we...
Read moreWent there on a Sunday evening with a party of seven people. Was seated right away and had what seemed like a good waitress at the time, and then it all fell apart. I was the only person to order a beer, and while the waitress brough the sodas to the table she also took our order for the entrees. After that, the waitress was missing in action for the entire meal. We had to flag down the hostess to locate the waitress. The meal was brought by kitchen staff, and it was a long time before the food arrived. The restaurant wasn't busy at all that night, and the entire group starting asking if something had gone wrong. Once the food arrived, it was room temperature, as if it had been waiting at the pass for quite a while before someone noticed. The great irony of all this was once the food had arrived, and the waitress finally came back (only after sending the hostess to find her), the waitress said "oh yeah that beer you wanted isn't available, do you want something else", so I picked out another beer (I guess only 49 beers were on tap that night). Waited another 10 minutes, only to be told the same thing (correction only 48 beers were on tap) so I ordered a domestic thinking the waitress would get it back to me ASAP. Sadly, the meal was over, most of the party were looking for their belongings, and then the waitress brings my beer..... 1 hour and 20 minutes later....... Simply unacceptable for a slow night or even a busy night. I guess that explains why they werent busy, the staff are clearly incompetent and need better leadership. I won't be...
