I should have known it was not going to be a rewarding experience when they are staffing the front of the restaurant with inexperienced people. I called to ask if they had room for a party of 4 later that night? "NOPE!" Then there was silence. My first reaction was to ask her if she enjoyed that. I told her we would have to go somewhere else then. She said "OK" in a somewhat congratulatory tone. As we were about to hang up she said "We could seat you inside of the restaurant if thats ok?" When she told me no the first time, I assumed she meant NO tables were available anywhere on the premises. Wow.... The ambience was ok except for the lack of music playing anywhere. I had to ask for them to play something because it felt very weird. They obliged, but I should not have to ask for music. Eventually the noise level from all the diners was uncomfortable and you cannot carry on a subdued conversation during peak hours if you are seated inside. No way. We ordered the usual Caesar salad without the chicken. They delivered a small side salad of some kind. I told the waitress that I didn't think we realized we were ordering the wrong thing. She dug in, "Well, I have worked here for 8 years and thats what you ordered." My wife is far nicer than me and didn't want to protest. She politely ate the side salad which was supposed to be her main entree. Somehow that tainted our service and I felt like we were treated like troublemakers after that. The night was ruined. I was bringing a family member from out of state and had bragged a bit about this fabulous Italian restaurant that rivals anything else in the valley. She was NOT impressed. O'well. You were our favorite restaurant. It will be a shame not to see you again. cosĂŹ a lungo...
Read moreWe tried Le Nonne for the first time to celebrate an anniversary. What a disappointment. The place is tiny. Too tiny. Some might call this "intimate," but I don't enjoy being right on top of other diners, crammed into small rooms that were never meant for this purpose. Even with reservations, we had to wait 30 minutes to be seated because they try to accommodate way more people than they've got seating for. Then when we were seated, it was next to an old, super cold and drafty window. My choices were to wear my coat during a "nice dinner" or shiver all night. The food was ok, but way too expensive considering you have to purchase a salad separately (which is also overpriced). The service was terrible; I had to ask for our bread, drink refills were apparently too much trouble to think about, there was no freshly grated parmesan, just a bowl of what looks like Kraft dumped in and sitting on the mantle. THEN, our server mixed up our check with the check of the party next to us, tried to fix it and mixed our cards up and ended up giving them our refund and charged us for both meals. He said he needed a manager to fix it but there was no manager there so it would have to wait until the next day. WHY, when a restaurant is only open for 4 hours a day is there no management on site? (Or anyone competent with a credit card machine?) We tried to be politely understanding but you would think there would have been some sort of token apology offering like, minimally, a free dessert or something. No. Just a shrug of the shoulders and a promise that after charging us for our meal as well as the business meal at the table next to ours, they'd call us the next day. Then they want us leave so they can seat some more...
Read moreWe stayed in Logan on our way to the Grand Tetons and sites beyond, and decided to try Le Nonne on our one night in town, based on reviews here and on TripAdvisor.
Our experience was good, but not outstanding. We ordered two appetizers and a pasta course. The smoked salmon crepes were excellent, if not what we expected...a dish we would recommend. The second appetizer was the tuna ahi carpaccio (sp?) was less satisfactory. The concept was good, but the dish was overwhelmed by the oil dressing...way over-sauced.
Over-sauced was also the problem with the evening special of veal ravioli. It could have been a great dish, if it hadn't been swimming in garlic butter (the garlic was great, but the butter bath was not). The ravioli were quite good, if cooked a bit beyond al dente.
For dessert, we decided to try the profiteroles, one of our favorites, and the presentation was beautiful. The fresh raspberries were excellent as was the chocolate sauce. However, the "profiteroles" were miniature cream puffs, not the ice cream filled pastries that are expected.
Service was excellent.
Don't plan on a good by-the-glass wine list or their listed spirits to be in stock.
Overall, it was a very pleasant evening and meal, but not a 5-star experience. We probably would try other options in Logan before we would go back, but would probably try it...
