This was our first and probably last visit. Went here in a group of 9 and didn't get a great reception. I understand that it's not always easy to accommodate large groups on a saturday night, but there were only about 5 tables of people in the whole place. The hostess told us we could split up and sit at different tables or we could go out to the patio. We chose the patio, and when we got out there the tables hadn't been cleared of the previous patrons drinks and when she cleared them she never came back to wipe them down. Things went downhill after that. There were 6 out of the group ordering drinks and it took 20+ minutes from ordering to receive said drink. The waitress/hostess never started a tab for anyone and didn't take drinks orders using an IPad or paper, just her memory. Orders had to be repeated several times because of this. The food thankfully came out very fast and was delicious, but the money maker should have been drinks but they were taking too long to come out. Then our waitress disappeared, never came to check on us and all the sudden a waiter brought out the last round of drinks because our waitress had left for the night and didn't check in and let us know. After the last round of drinks was delivered, we sat for 30 minutes waiting for someone to check in on us so we could pat and leave. Because the waitress was using memory and didn't start tabs, the waiter who took over had to untangle the orders so people could pay. We were all very disappointed with the nightand don't plan on returning, which is unfortunate because it seems like a cool place...
Read moreWent out here with friends. I chose this place because other reviewers said it had a "weird vibe." I think the weird vibe described is basically due to the inexperience of the servers. The servers are attentive but have a hard time articulating what is on offer from the bar (especially) and the kitchen.
Initially, I sat at the bar, joining a colleague there while waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. I asked if I could get a Southern Comfort Manhattan. The bartender didn't know what that was, so I told her. She said it was her second day on the job. But they didn't have Southern Comfort.
My second choice was a regular menu item, the Purple Reign, which was a very well presented gin drink with a nice herbal garnish. Very tasty.
The rest of my party arrived and we moved to a table. I finished my beverage after my friends ordered their drinks and the charcuterie. It had a wonderful sauce, olives, figs, dried apricots, and two different types of hard salami and some hard cheese.
I ordered a single malt scotch and beer, along with the cheese plate. Parker, our server, had helpful suggestion to get an order of foccacia bread in addition to the cheese. The cheese plate came with fresh mozzarella and a hard goat cheese and something else, but had dried apricots and figs. It was...
Read moreIt's hard to believe this used to be Mulligan's--the space feels completely transformed. We had delicious cocktails and incredible food, not to mention excellent service. Even with all the labor shortages in town, you would never guess that Barrel & Stave had just opened. Staff was always attentive, food and drinks came out quickly, and everything was delicious. The bites menu is small plate style, so if you're going for a meal you should expect to order a few things.
I drank the Rye Smash and the Basil Cucumber Collins. The Rye Smash had a lot of depth of flavor, while the Collins was so refreshing I could hardly put it down. We tried the charcuterie, oysters, croquettes, and gnocchi (with a shiitake sauce and a sage sauce) throughout the night. I'm always a little hesitant about seafood in town, but these were some of the best oysters I've ever had, even on the coast. I think the gnocchi was my highlight of the night though. Such a comforting dish that feels elevated. I can't...
