I have a lot to say so this will be a bit long I went in here on a Saturday afternoon and asked the person taking my order if they had any specials and they said they had an “asparagus burger”. That didn’t sound appealing at first until I listened to him tell me a whole story about how the dish was inspired and all the different ways they used asparagus in the burger. His enthusiasm about it told me everything I needed to know I ordered it. I don’t really like asparagus! Let me just say it was incredible. Insanely good. The burger and the garlic fries both. I have a whole new appreciation for asparagus. Seriously one of the best burgers I’ve had, and I can tell you why. Because it was cooked with love by people who gave a damn about what they do and when they were mincing and shaving and frying all that asparagus they were telling a story about asparagus and not just making food. The presentation was also great and the burger was carefully wrapped. Even the way the person bagged my order was with care. They didn’t just chuck the fries in there. They placed the food in gently and then carefully stapled the bag closed. Message received.🫡Y’all love what you do, and really care about food and you pay attention to the little details....
Read moreTo the business owner: Order your own bread pudding at "market price" and tell me how you feel about the value.
Bread pudding is one of my favorite desserts, and it's somewhat rare, so when a restaurant has it, I usually get it. After eating a meal of hamburger and fries, I asked for a bread pudding and saw the price was $13.99 on the tablet. I don't mind paying a premium, but that's more than a fine steakhouse charges for bread pudding. I asked how big it was, and the employee indicated a rectangle that would go inside a plastic bowl. It didn't seem substantial, but I went with it because I like to try bread pudding.
The size was on the small side - as in $5.99 would have been pushing it. But maybe the taste would be the redemption — it was so horrible that my girlfriend and I only took a few bites and threw it away. It came with two slight slivers of ice cream which were so frozen, I literally cut chunks off with my spoon.
The hamburger tasted fine, but the beef patty was comically thin; you'd need to order 2 to have a full patty. The fries were also acceptable on taste.
The bread pudding "market price" tactic was very unbecoming, but I thought at least there would be redemption in excellent quality and a fair...
Read moreLet's start by acknowledging that the amazing food I had is going to be completely different than the amazing food you're going to have.
Cooks Underground is more than just a restaurant, it's a concept. Every 4 to 5 months it will be like a new restaurant in the same location. Same chefs, same amazing, homemade quality, different menu, and recipes.
During this visit, we're in burger season. They offer 10 to 12 different signature burgers on the menu along with some quality salads. On top of their every day burgers, they offer specials. Everything is homemade from bun to bun. And their buns are fantastic.
I went with the Ancho Libre and was delighted with the tangy sweetness of the burger. They treat every ingredient special, and everything adds value. My alternative choice would've been the morning burger but I don't feel like washing egg out of my shirt. These burgers are big, messy, and require both hands and your undivided attention. Just like every good burger should be
