I visited the new LBC bar Little Gee a couple of times. My first impressions are overwhelmingly positive. The establishment has a sophisticated yet quirky decor and style, with a casual chilled-out attitude. Relaxing for sure, good energy but not too rowdy or loud, in a fairly small-to-medium-sized single hall and bar (very nice restroom facilities BTW). The drinks selection is one-of-a-kind: it has a collection of craft beers, a significant choice of wines, and a mixed-drinks offering that is one of the most interesting and refined I've yet experienced in drinking establishments. The mixed drinks are creatively made, with a great deal of sophistication and inventiveness, with European, Latin, and local touches throughout -- there are drinks there that you haven't seen anywhere else that will intrigue you, and they taste awesome. The food offerings are fantastic as well -- of course, this is not a restaurant or a place where you would go specifically for dinner, but there is a solid food menu, mostly finger-food tasty selections, but also things like tasty pizza-ish flatbread that will actually fill you up if you want to actually make a meal out of it (and try the heated spiced olives, to die for!). Overall, you won't believe just how many different types of things you can get here, beer, wine, and mixed drinks at a high level of quality and selection and awesome bar food all at the same place, a chilled out cool joint like this, where you can come in for 15 minutes or two hours, or whatever, and come out feeling good. I talked to several people I know who have also checked out this new place, and they all had almost uniformly good first impressions (from different walks of life, among like artists, engineers, party people, middle-aged, kinda like the mixed crowd of customers in the place itself). I was surprised to find this many of my acquaintances appreciating the vibe and decor of this place, but once one of them told me of all the hype the place has been getting in the LA food newspapers then maybe it's not so surprising LOL. It feels like whatever your night-time tastes are you'll enjoy the place. So to make a long story short, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I wouldn't often rate things this well, but it's been a while since I felt excited like this about a bar or drinking establishment, and I can't wait to see how BabyGee continues to grow going forward, and when I...

Read moreCame here back in December of last year for the first time because I had heard rave reviews of this place from some friends. Decided to bring some cousins that flew in from out of town and we were all rather underwhelmed.
Drinks from both the seasonal holiday menu and the regular one left a lot to be desired. While the intention might be to catch your eye with seemingly bold and delicious cocktails, Baby Gee unfortunately fell short of the mark. Could it have just been they weren’t on it that night? Perhaps.
For the price of the mixed drinks, nothing really provided that WOW factor. In all honesty it feels like the emphasis was more on drink presentation than actual taste.
Another thing worth noting is that our drinks took a considerable amount of time to be made, and this was on a very slow Thursday night. This could be understandable on a bustling weekend, but there were only three other people in the bar at the time when my family and I went.
I understand that preparing craft cocktails can take some time, but if it takes a bartender about 20-25 minutes to prepare four drinks, either the menu needs modification or more staff are needed to assist with customers. I don’t see Baby Gee lasting long if this is a regular occurrence.
Overall this visit was more memorable for the things that were lacking than anything that truly excelled. There are a plethora of options around Long Beach that can match or exceed the experience you’d have here, and for a lower price point. It’s also worth mentioning that if you drive to this establishment, parking can be rather difficult to find on any given night.
Maybe I can be persuaded to give Baby Gee another try if invited by friends on a future date, but first impressions matter and sadly this one was...
