I booked this motel based on the reviews and found my experience to be equally positive.
My booking criteria: a room for 2 adults and 1 teenager for 2 nights close to the cruise port; reasonable cost (the conversion from CAD to USD is killer); clean; free wifi; quiet; ideally walking distance to the boardwalk.
This motel hit all the criteria and more. It is an older motel that has been updated and modernized. The property and rooms are very clean (as is Long Beach, we discovered).
We booked a room with a queen bed in the main area and a double in the 2nd bedroom (my teenager loved the separate space). Great set up for us. Note that the photos on the website are probably taken with a wide lens so it gives the impression that the rooms are larger. Or maybe there are larger rooms available but the one we had was not huge. Either way, it was fine for us. The main area has lots of space between the bed and tv console. The 2nd bedroom size is tighter with just room to walk around the bed so if you have a large piece of luggage, you may need to store and open it in the main room.
We found the beds to be comfortable and slept well. There is a microwave and small fridge plus a Keurig coffee maker. There is also some free snacks and a free coffee machine in the check in office - I would recommend the lattes.
The beach, boardwalk, Shoreline, Aquarium, Pike Outlets, conference centre, many food trucks and restaurants are all in very close walking distance. There is a nice short walkway that starts from the Terrance theatre takes you to Pike Outlets. A grocery store (Vons) is just 1.5 blocks from the hotel.
We loved seeing all the bikes and scooters available literally everywhere and easy to rent using an app. Made for a quick and inexpensive ride to the CVS 10 blocks away. We also rented them to ride along the boardwalk.
TIPS: It’s important to remember that the motel is an older building that has been modernized so the room windows take a bit of effort to open, the bathroom is on the smaller size, and there is no fan in the bathroom but we found no issues with this.
Also while there is a fan wall unit in the main room there is not one in the 2nd smaller bedroom so if you close the door, I recommend opening the window for ventilation. And bring ear plugs as you will hear a bit of...
Read moreMy wife and I literally just checked out of our room. We stayed at this place by chance and loved it! I was originally staying at the Travelodge which is half a block from Inn at 50. When I went to pay for my room my phone died and I needed to charge it since I use Apple Pay. The manager at the Travelodge wouldn’t let me plug my phone in the hallway and he wouldn’t charge it in his office so I could pay for my room there. He told me “no, I can’t do it because then I would be charging everybody’s phone” I explain to him. This was the only way that I would be able to pay for my room as I was trying to stay there for two nights, and he said “no go down the street and try somewhere else and come back“. I was amazed at how rude he was as I was trying to give him money, I walked and the first place I saw was the front office manager for the inn at 50. I asked him if I would be able to charge my phone because I needed Apple Pay to check into the travelodge and he replied “yes of course I can charge it for you”. I then had an epiphany, why not give this nice man my money instead of the abusive jerk next door. They had vacancy and within minutes I was checked in and had the key to my room and all for $10 cheaper than the travelodge. My wife and I loved the room, it was large, extremely clean with soft towels and all natural toiletries. My wife is a snob when it comes to soap, shampoo etc. and she approves of the products the hotel provided! All around A+ for cleanliness, location, customer service extra points for an all around positive vibe they have which is infectious! So stoked to find the Inn at 50 and definitely can’t bring myself to downgrade and go back to travelodge after...
Read moreI booked a room at this hotel when evacuating from the 2025 LA fires. When I arrived to check in, the front desk attendant was unable to read the debit card I gave him for payment. He indicated that the machine sometimes had issues. I am confident that it was not an issue with my card, as I had purchased a book at a bookstore and a drink at a coffee shop earlier that same afternoon. The front desk attendant told me that, because I did not have another card, my only other option was to pay the room charge and additional deposit in cash. I told him that I did not have the nearly $800 required for the charges in cash on me, that I did not think I could withdraw the amount from an ATM without hitting maximum a daily withdrawal limit, and that even if I could withdraw the required amount, I didn't feel comfortable walking down the street of a busy urban area with that much money in cash on me. He indicated that this was my only option to access the room, so I left. This was a very unpleasant experience to have when fleeing a catastrophic natural disaster. If this hotel has a card reader that doesn't work, they need to replace it, not muddle through and create situations like this for vulnerable travelers. Thankfully, I was able to get one of the last rooms available at another hotel nearby. I also purchased dinner later that evening, and a tea at Starbucks. I made both purchases with my debit card, which confirmed my sense that the issue was with the card reader, not my card. I discourage other travelers from patronizing...
