McDonald's — Restaurant in Long Beach

Updated, 10-20-22: They rarely get special orders right. Cooking staff does not always wear proper hair and beard nets. They over-salt the fries so much I often throw them out. I can actually feel my BP rise as I eat them. I'm told, by one shift manager, part of the problem is they don't clean the French fry area (where they are salted) often enough so there's a lot of salt residue that builds throughout the day. They have the same problem with salt and pepper on burgers. Too much is added, and they don't clean the grill enough so salt and pepper build up on the grill. By the end of the day you can get a mouthful of S&P on a single bite of your burger, so bad you choke on it. The soda has been watered down and often tastes like it has chemicals in it. . The drive-up screen has been broken for months.* (now fixed, updated 10-20-22) . UPDATE 10-20-22: Looks like they lost the smug child manager (see below), which is good. But getting special orders right is still an issue. Honestly, I would eat elsewhere but I'm addicted to the fries. I'd be happy if there were no McDs in the area. The unhealthy choices and inability to get special orders right brings me down to about 3 visits a month now. The Long Beach Peninsula needs healthy choices, including vegan. (Original comment): Most staff is extremely nice and helpful but they have one employee (a younger male shift manager) who needs an attitude adjustment. He is very out of place here, in comparison to the other employees who are very nice and helpful. My friend put in a formal complaint about him and has yet to hear from the franchise owner (as corporate promised he would). . UPDATE DECEMBER 2019: Down to 2 stars for above and below reasons.

They finally refurbished the store but who ever designed the outside should be fired. In this area, with so much rain, they decided not to have adequate cover in the areas where you must open your car window in the drive-thru, so you are going to get very wet when it rains and go through the drive-thru.

The exit of the drive-thru was also botched with a speed bump caused by a poorly designed handicap entry from the street. The handicap walkway is needed of course, but it was designed by a moron.

The same for the bathroom redesign - horrible!!

BOTTOM LINE: Most of the staff is friendly but many are inept. Between the inept staff, horrible design of bathrooms (for the handicapped), horrible drive up design, this McDonalds is possibly the worst I've been...

Just NO, McDonald's, Just NO Beyond disappointing. Ordered two #6 fish sandwich meals large size with Lemonade and two sides of tartar. Pretty standard because their fish Sandi are disgustingly dry and extra tartar is necessary to eat in. That POS order cost almost $30. They're serious with their exploitation of the customer.

Was charged almost a dollar for two cups of tartar. Each cup was approximately 1/3 full. For $1 I got approximately 2/3 of 1 cup of tartar sauce. That's exploitation.

The large fries were small pieces of french fries, approx three quarters of an inch in length each. The fries were a total mess and I was unable to continue digging around in the bottom of the greasy box to get the pitiful fry fragments.

We were charged additionally, almost $5 for the beverages because we dared to chose a mildly healthier alternative to soda and instead requested lemonade. Exploitation dictates punishment for healthier choices so an undisclosed "up charge" was applied. We had to actually ask why we were charged.

This is the third and last time I will be visiting this McDonald's. The first two times, I was unpleasantly surprised, but decided to give the store the benefit of the doubt. I have a couple of decades in food service management, and I'm all too aware of the myriad variables that can result in a subpar dish. As such, whenever I do try a new place, my policy is to give that place three good, college tries. That way, even if circumstances do result in an iffy dish the first time, the restaurant has two more tries to get it right. Unfortunately, my chicken nugget meal had the exact same issues all three times.

1. Fries were so oversalted that they were literally inedible.
2. My chicken nuggets came cold and hard, like they'd been sitting out all day. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't McDonald's world renowned for their fries? And pretty famous for their nuggets, too? One would think that if nothing else, they would have those figured...
