Sweet Retreat Donuts — Restaurant in Long Beach

THIS PLACE IS FANTASTIC!!! As foodie with a major sweet tooth, I am super picky, especially regarding things being homemade and using REAL ingredients, not artificial, cheap garbage. Most donut places, even expensive "gourmet" ones, use fake whipped cream as you would find at Krispy Kreme (or in a Twinkie). This is the ONLY PLACE I've ever found that actually uses REAL WHIPPED CREAM--and it's HOMEMADE!. HUGE taste difference. Their passion fruit glaze is the real deal--fresh, tangy, delicious balance of tangy&sweet, not cloying. Plus, where else can you get passion fruit donuts? Hibiscus is another winner--beautiful rich ruby-purple color with flavor to match, even topped with REAL (dried) ibiscus flowers! Taro, matcha, and pineapple are other unique flavors not found anywhere else. And, LOW PRICES. They charge under $2 for what other "gourmet" shops charge $3+. (Same general area, too; it's not as if one is in an upscale neighborhood.) At another gourmet shop, I have paid $4.5 for a donut with fake cream whereas SWEET RETREAT charged me only $3.50 for a large chocolate-glazed donut filled with REAL, HOMEMADE whipped cream and FRESH STRAWBERRIES! Their SMORES donut is one of the BEST THINGS I'VE EVER EATEN. It didn't just have marshmallows on top, it had a large TOASTED marshmallow--like a real s'more-- on top of crushed graham crackers and gooey...

My husband and I are donut addicts, that when we wrote our wedding vows, we both mentioned donuts without each other knowing it. With that said this place has the BEST VEGAN DONUTS! I thought I found the best donuts till I came across this place. It's soo fresh, that it melts in your mouth. They have a huge variety of vegan donuts from raised, apple fritter, bear claw, cinnamon roll, cake, different topping, that it's hard to just pick 1 or 2. Basically I just want to eat every flavor. Not only the vegans are great, but the owner is amazing, the staff are great, overall a friendly experience. The place is just soo cute inside. Everytime I am in here it feels relaxing and exciting even if I am in a rush. The staff is cool and the donuts just hype you up. Their vegan donuts are awesome even though I'm not a vegan but I'll buy them from time to time for me or friends who are. They can't believe how good it tastes compared to pricier vegan donuts elsewhere. The service is great because every member has a favorite item in most categories that they'll talk about and offer suggestions. There are some "wacky" donuts that look good too.

Because I've been here enough, most of the good stuff becomes low in quantity around late morning or no more until they can make more; I've experienced it sometimes but there's no harm in being flexible.
