A few Reddit searches later and I saw that Pelo's was the spot to try. I had never heard of them before that. Well, that makes sense, as Pelo's is pretty new in Longmont. Well, here's wishing them a long journey and stay in Longmont, because they deserve it. Settled in on Main, the aesthetic is very cool. It's a simple bar and tables, but the wood all around let's you know you're in a historic building. The photos on the walls are also fun to gaze at and think of what 1800s Longmont was like. I ordered a reuban and fries and my partner got the Chicago fries. I also ordered a Brown Sugar Latte. That's the reason for the service score, they forgot to make it completely and I had to go let them know it was needing made. Not a big deal and they still get 5 stars. Onto the food. The reuben was great. A nice pile of corned beef and cooked well. This is done in the thousand island style. Longmont's best reuben of all the ones I've tried. I personally prefer the kraut to have a bit more punch of sourness, but, still great. Now onto the Chicago fries. Damn do these rock. It's a Chicago beef on fries, which is a killer deal and filing. They have all the fixings typical with a Chicago beef. As for the fries by themselves, hands down these are Longmont's best fry. Every fry was consistently crispy and perfect. I've never had a serving of fries this good anywhere, actually. I have no idea how they do these with such precision. The Brown Sugar Latte was okay. I detected not a single hint of brown sugar, so I fear the girl, maybe a bit flustered, made just a latte. Oh well, we're not going to dwell on the latte much because of how much this place rocks. I 100% suggest stopping in here and giving it a...
Read moreVery very disappointed in my visit at Pelo’s this evening!! Ordered 2 sandwiches, one grilled and the other a cold, premade sandwich, sat to look at the drink menu, ordered our drinks and waited. Received our drinks a while later and it wasn’t until the grilled sandwich came out that we were FINALLY informed they were out of the COLD SANDWICH. Which is an item that should have been premade and ready. To sit and not find out right away or even a few minutes later that the sandwich that was supposed to be the quick and ready option wasn’t even available AFTER the hot food already came was extremely frustrating. Aggravated and upset we left and did not stay to finish. Who goes on a date and wants to eat while their partner sits there with no food or has to wait alone while they’re date waits for more food if they DID decide to order something else. Not good customer service at all. A refund was offered like that would fix it but it still ruined a perfectly good night. All that needed to be done was to notify us sooner. There is no excuse as the sandwich should have been sitting there ready to be prepared and noticed right away that it wasn’t available. We would have either ordered something else or gone somewhere we could both enjoy food AT THE SAME TIME. Instead we paid for drinks and one meal and left upset and not full. Not...
Read moreMy experience with the burger here was consistently disappointing and concerning. On three separate visits, I ordered a burger and it arrived undercooked with a pink, even rare, center.
The first time this happened, I was told it's "normal" to have a pink burger, which is a dangerous misconception. Ground beef needs to be cooked thoroughly to a safe temperature to kill bacteria that can be mixed throughout the patty during grinding. This is different from a steak, where bacteria is only on the surface. I informed the staff of this and showed them on my phone why this is dangerous. They seemed to think I was wrong. “Just order it well done next time“ they said. As a foreshadow, well done means NO pink.
On my subsequent two visits, I specifically requested the burger "well done," and it still arrived with a distinctly pink center. The patties were so undercooked they were dripping a pink liquid onto the paper, and appeared pink throughout the entirety of both burger patties. They were seasoned well, it is a shame that the meat cannot be properly prepared even when ordering them well done.
Given that this was a consistent issue on three separate occasions, it seems to be a serious food safety problem with how they prepare their burgers. I cannot recommend ordering a burger from this restaurant until they...
