We were very excited to try this place - great reviews. High prices, but online it looks like a nice French place, right?
Unfortunately it was really subpar. We ate outside (because of Covid, outside only), however the dining area is on two streets with a lot of traffic. There is a fountain to mask the traffic noise. The music playing on the patio is provided by a small bluetooth speaker, so it sounds "clipped" because they have to turn it up loud to try to project outside. And it's tuned to some radio station that periodically plays ads during your dinner. The servers are kind of checked out - not warm to the customers, not enthusiastic about their restaurant.
I got the Crepe with Black Forest Ham and Aged Cheddar Cheese for $19. It was a half-sized crepe, with what literally looked like a square slice of velveeta melted on top. (I wish I took a picture of the melted velveeta - sorry!) I was shocked when I saw it. I was like, OK you guys win, you really took me in with your nice reviews online. The ham was dry. The crepe itself was kind of doughy! Never had a crepe like that. So bad. It looks good on the web site, and actually the hotel to which it is attached looks nice (did not go in). I think the restaurant must survive on non-local hotel guests? My wife got the french dip sandwich (which is not really a French thing). The bread was a big soft American roll. The fries were OK but they are those industrial ones, like at Burger King, with the crispy coating on the outside. My glass of wine was decent, not terrible wine, but then it was $16. Anyway, we were very disappointed by this place, after high expectations from the reviews and the...
Read moreCame here for two coffee and four tiny macaroons--bill with tip was $30. We sat outside and asked if it was okay to just have coffee and dessert. Wonder if service was so poor, because we did not order more. It was 2 p.m. and not busy--as many staff people inside doing nothing as there were customers.. Maybe they were nicer and more helpful to people having lunch or brunch. We were ignored after coffee was served--we had also ordered the macaroons which never arrived--finally had to go inside to ask for them and even then there was a delay for four tiny cookies--smallest I have ever seen. One waiter offered coffee refills when the cookies arrived, we said yes, but he never came back.. four different people helped us--or to be more precise--four different people did not help us..We also had to flag down another waiter for the bill--we could have left without paying--no one ever checked on us and there were only four people dining by the time we left. There are lots of excellent choices in Los Altos. We picked this one because it was close to the library where we met....
Read moreWe went for Sunday brunch. The atmosphere was chill and good. The location is not because it’s at an intersection. Glad we were seated indoor. Brunch mainly serves Benedict eggs, two eggs any style and omelettes. The variety was good. We ordered the crab Benedict eggs and beignet trio. The crab cake was super thick and full of crab meat. I’m glad they are not the grease American style crab cakes! Not sure about the freshness of the crab cakes, taste like reheated from frozen. The avocado under the crab cake didn’t match well and need seasoning. The eggs and holland sauce are impeccable though. Beignet trio contains cream, chocolate and Nutella flavors. Not sure if they were from frozen food too. I like the drizzled cherry sauce! This sweet dish goes well with coffee. We also ordered a latte and a cappuccino. Taste good. I also like the French vibe here and understand it’s the hotel’s restaurant! We were hunting for new brunch places today and after trying this one, I don’t think it worths a...
