Charley Noodle & Grill — Restaurant in Los Altos

There are very few times that Yelp has led me down a wrong path and this is one of them. I'm not sure how this place receives an average 4 star rating. We ordered the ramen with spicy tonkatsu broth. You have to add each topping separately. Most ramen incorporates the spices to the soup base to make it spicy. When I received it, there was a layer of hot oil floating on top. The noodles tasted like the ramen noodles from a package. It has that same waxy exterior that is very distinctive. The signs of a good ramen is the noodle and the soup. Both failed. The egg was over cooked and the yolk had a grayish ring. The one redeeming thing is the minced pork. It was flavorful, but again on the dry side.

Waitress was very unprofessional. When asking for a third item on the menu she said “you already ordered the noodles” and I said “yes that’s correct. And I want this too”.. she replied “that’s way too much food for you to eat for lunch” and rubbed it in multiple times that I was eating too much… I often like to order a lot of diverse things and take some home to eat later or share with my husband. This caught me off guard and was very upsetting. I don’t know if she was fat shaming or just being mean spirited but after seeing some more recent reviews it seems that I’m not alone in this rude demeaning treatment. Went for dinner at 7om on a Saturday and it was not very crowded. There was only server (I think she may be the owner?) but she was quick and attentive to all the parties. This place must have frequent regulars because in down-moments, she was chatting up different groups in a manner suggesting she knew them well. The place is clean and the service was fast.

I got the ramen with tonkotsu broth and added in the shoyu egg (seasoned egg). The ramen was very good but the egg was disappointing. Whatever dish my friend got he liked very much.

I would definitely try this place again and recommend...
