Amazing Food, average drinks, great seating, difficult parking, but overall positive experience. Come here if you want good food and aren’t too concerned with having top quality cocktails. The food alone makes this place worth it!
The food: I’ll start with the good - the food here is excellent. They have a wide variety of offerings. I recommend the chicken mole enchiladas or the burritos. The mole is some of the best I’ve tried in the Bay Area. I also love how the grilled steak tasted (it had a lovely charred flavor). The Mexican rice had an amazing spice to it and the refríed beans were great! Can’t say enough good things about the food.
The drinks: The drinks were okay but we felt there was too much sugar and not enough alcohol. The two margaritas we tried just felt a little artificial. I think if they added a bit more tequila and cut down on the sugar a bit - it would be much better! I ended up just ordering a shot of tequila instead!
The location: The location is great but parking can be difficult during busy times. There’s only a few spaces out front. However, it’s in an easy location next to el Camino real! Safe neighborhood, quiet, and peaceful!
The Service: The staff here is great! They were very attentive and friendly. They made a small mistake on my receipt but explained it - so no worries there! Super friendly staff!
Overall, 7/10 experience if you’re looking for drinks and food - but 9/10 if you’re only concerned with food! The one point off is for...
Read moreI had been for over 5 years anticipating to come here. When I asked the waitress if she had any suggestions because I love spicy food and I was looking at their fish she said they did not have anything spicy but that they could put the salsa that they serve with the chips on the the fish. That was disappointing. And I left it alone. When the food came the black whole beans were extremely Salty along with my Chile Relleno. I ended up putting water on my black whole beans and adding salsa to them. Not to mention it seemed as if we were being avoided because we had a one-year-old baby. The only one that actually checked up on us was the host which was a very young man. And when our waitress finally showed up we had already ordered dessert with the host and she still didn't get our dessert correct. I had never been to a Mexican restaurant where the food was so salty without flavor or authenticity. This place I would never recommend to anyone. It was not full of flavor or warmth as you would expect to be embraced as a customer who loves Mexican food. For this reason alone seeing how poor customer service and quality has gone down since a pandemic I'd rather cook my own Mexican food I just need to buy a house. This was very disappointing to come here to the Estrellita restaurant. Is way too bad that I had anticipated for so many years...
Read moreEstrellita Mexican Bistro is a family-owned business since 1978. They serve authentic Mexican food and the décor is exactly like what exists in Mexico.
The waitress was super friendly and helpful.
I ordered one of the house specialties, Cochinita Pibil, which they describe as a succulent Mayan dish from Yucatán. Pork slowly braised in banana leaves, fresh fruit juices, herbs and achiote, a special indigenous spice blend made from the red seed of the Annatto tree. Served with rice and black beans. The found the meal to be good but not ideal.
My two friends ordered another house specialty, Gourmet Burrito, described as Our original, award-winning burrito recipe. A flour tortilla with your choice of slow-roasted shredded beef, beef and beans, chicken, chicken and beans or refried beans with cheese. Topped with mild red sauce or green spicy sauce. One friend preferred the red sauce; the other the green sauce. Both friends very much enjoyed their meals.
Estrellita’s has both indoor and outdoor seating.
There is hardly any parking in front of the restaurant, so new customers must figure out where to park on either side of San Antonio.
Personally, I encourage diners to try Estrellita’s – small family-owned businesses can use the support of the community, especially during and after the Covid pandemic. The pandemic has caused...
