Rick’s has been in Los Altos for many years. I was actually surprised why I haven’t tried them earlier. From the outside Rick’s look like a hole in a wall. But when I go inside, I was surprised how spacious it is. Very high ceiling and the hall runs to the other end of the building. About the food. Rick’s menu is very heavy on breakfast and brunch items. They also have sandwiches and burger. We went there just before they are closed so we ordered a breakfast and a club sandwich. The portions are big. I can’t really finish my sandwich. The food came quick and the fries were hot. I also tried their coffee. It turns out that they roast their own coffee. I ordered a cup and they served me a thermos. The coffee was a dark roasted and it was really good. The server was attentive but not over-bearing. When I look for a Tabasco she appears right away and ask if I need anything - really good services in my book. Rick’s will definitely be my regular spot. Good for group, good for children. Lively and convenient. Large portions. About $15-20 per person.

Breakfast is awesome here. The menu was filled with so many choices, it was difficult to decide. My guests ordered omelettes, skillets, and pancakes. The breakfast items were fantastic. The blueberry pancakes were the fluffiest pancakes I had ever seen. It was a large stack of three pancakes with a side of blueberry sauce. The omelettes and skillets are awesome. The side of bacon came with four slices of bacon but the taste was a little flat. I ordered the "philly steak" with french fries and salad. Unfortunately, their version of the philly cheesesteak probably needs some help. The salad was a little disappointing, but the vinaigrette was delicious. The fries were good. I ordered a guava mimosa. It was a little on the sweet side for me, but overall not bad. The service was quick and attentive. Overall, I would come back for breakfast again.

2/14/2024 Rick's Cafe 205 State St Los Altos, CA 94022 We ended up here for lunch since the place across the street had a 15 minute wait. It has a spacious clean setup with real furniture. Service was prompt, even after our order taker left at his shift change. The menu is mainly breakfast all day with some sandwiches and burgers. Wifey had the Hungry Rick with special ordered Blueberry pancakes and I had the Country Fried Steak special. Both were okay with good size portions. The signature item is that they feature toasted bagels instead of bread with their offerings. Value was okay but there are other similar DTLA places I prefer, so probably no repeat.

We went Rick’s in Los Altos to celebrate Father’s Day today, called in early in the day and was happy that we were able to reserve a table. We were promptly seated outside at 11:30, waited for about 20mins before we could order our food. Got our coffee and mimosa in a few minutes but no sign of food. After multiple reminders the waiter comes to our table at 12:45, and asks us to repeat our order saying there was a mix up in the kitchen. Waited for another 20mins and went inside and asked the hostess (who was not customer friendly at all with absolutely no smile on her face) who told us we would get our food in 5 mins. Waited for another 10mins and went back in and asked the hostess to give us our check so we can walk away. She immediately goes to the register with no hesitation or an apology and writes up a check for our drinks which we paid and walked away to go find another place to eat at around 1:30pm. So, we waited for two hours for our Father’s Day brunch and had to settle for mimosa and coffee.

What a memorable Father’s Day at Rick’s Cafe :((( ...

I've been coming here since they first opened so many years ago. The restaurant as it exists now is unrecognizable from the quaint and excellent restaurant that I remember.

For starters, I was made to wait for a table in a restaurant that was half empty. The hostess seemed very slow and inefficient and in no hurry whatsoever to seat people. As far as I can tell, we waited for no reason.

Then we were put in the very back "patio" section, which had only one waitress for the entire back of the restaurant. The waitress was also extremely slow and made things take forever.

The coffee I got, which used to be the best part of the meal, was a far cry from what it used to be. There is no way that they still roast and grind their own beans. Whatever display they have in the front is just decoration now. It wasn't even brewed correctly and tasted like water with milk.

My pancakes were good but not great. I will probably...
