We went Rick’s in Los Altos to celebrate Father’s Day today, called in early in the day and was happy that we were able to reserve a table. We were promptly seated outside at 11:30, waited for about 20mins before we could order our food. Got our coffee and mimosa in a few minutes but no sign of food. After multiple reminders the waiter comes to our table at 12:45, and asks us to repeat our order saying there was a mix up in the kitchen. Waited for another 20mins and went inside and asked the hostess (who was not customer friendly at all with absolutely no smile on her face) who told us we would get our food in 5 mins. Waited for another 10mins and went back in and asked the hostess to give us our check so we can walk away. She immediately goes to the register with no hesitation or an apology and writes up a check for our drinks which we paid and walked away to go find another place to eat at around 1:30pm. So, we waited for two hours for our Father’s Day brunch and had to settle for mimosa and coffee.
What a memorable Father’s Day at Rick’s Cafe :((( ...
Read moreRick’s has been in Los Altos for many years. I was actually surprised why I haven’t tried them earlier. From the outside Rick’s look like a hole in a wall. But when I go inside, I was surprised how spacious it is. Very high ceiling and the hall runs to the other end of the building.
About the food. Rick’s menu is very heavy on breakfast and brunch items. They also have sandwiches and burger. We went there just before they are closed so we ordered a breakfast and a club sandwich. The portions are big. I can’t really finish my sandwich. The food came quick and the fries were hot. I also tried their coffee. It turns out that they roast their own coffee. I ordered a cup and they served me a thermos. The coffee was a dark roasted and it was really good.
The server was attentive but not over-bearing. When I look for a Tabasco she appears right away and ask if I need anything - really good services in my book.
Rick’s will definitely be my regular spot.
Good for group, good for children. Lively and convenient. Large portions. About...
Read moreI've been coming here since they first opened so many years ago. The restaurant as it exists now is unrecognizable from the quaint and excellent restaurant that I remember.
For starters, I was made to wait for a table in a restaurant that was half empty. The hostess seemed very slow and inefficient and in no hurry whatsoever to seat people. As far as I can tell, we waited for no reason.
Then we were put in the very back "patio" section, which had only one waitress for the entire back of the restaurant. The waitress was also extremely slow and made things take forever.
The coffee I got, which used to be the best part of the meal, was a far cry from what it used to be. There is no way that they still roast and grind their own beans. Whatever display they have in the front is just decoration now. It wasn't even brewed correctly and tasted like water with milk.
My pancakes were good but not great. I will probably...
