This used to be a 5-star coffee place for me (and I still really enjoy the coffee itself), but recently the quality of service has really deteriorated, specifically at this location. Not sure if itâs getting busier, the staff is new, or a combination of both, but I had 2 separately bad experiences all within a few weeks, and both service-related issues.
TL;DR staff is slow, forgets items/orders, does not acknowledge or apologize for the errors.
The first time, I had placed a mobile order about 10 minutes ahead of time. Usually this is ample time for my order to be ready (and even in-app the estimated wait states 7 minutes). However when I arrived, my order was not ready. No problem, I was happy to wait since the place looked super packed. However, after waiting for an another 15 minutes and the place had thinned out, I still didnât see anyone working on my order. Someone finally noticed me standing there and asked, âdid you get your order?â To which I replied âno.â After another 5 minutes, I finally got my order of 2 pastries and one iced Nola. Would have been nice to receive a âsorry about the waitâ since the ordeal took 30 minutes overall (moral of the issue), which did not happen.
After the first instance, I decided to go back again today and order in-person just in case the issue was online ordering. Again, ordered 2 pastries and one drink. One pastry was given to me immediately since I said it didnât need to be heated up, and the second drink took about 10 minutes to come out. When it did, the drink did not have a lid on it. As I waited for the lid to my drink and the second pastry that had been warmed up and was sitting on the counter, the barista just stared at me, as if waiting for me to leave so I just picked up the coffee and pointed to the croissant and asked if it was mine. He stared at it and simply went âyeah.â Nothing else. Could not have left the place faster.
It is unfortunate because this location in particular is very conveniently located by a dance studio I teach at on weekend mornings, but will be going out of my way to find coffee elsewhere...

A cup of Latte is about $5.50 (as of March 2022).
Cappuccino used to be $4.50. The price increased to $5 as of November 2019.
Here is a little fun exercise. Thinking of best coffee places in the Playa Vista area and how I would rank them: Number one clearly is blue bottle for me. Number two is two guns coffee. Number three probably are Joliet in the Free market place in Playa Vista and Playa Provisions in Playa del Rey. Cafe Solar's Latte was not that good when I went there in February 2022. Cafe Solar on Manchester Avenue. The coffee tasted very bitter and earthy; probably due to origin of the beans and brewing process. Most Coffee Latte rang in at about $5 in this area in February 2022.

Read moreWhy do all these hippie coffees taste the same, like they added pumpkin, look in really it doesn't matter how you make it, or we're it comes from, as long as it tastes good, so many time places try to hard to add so many ingredients to even beer or coffee that the basic flavor is lost. "COFFEE" so for my and my standard, and just in case you want to know my standards, here they are (I don't care if it came form Kings or from hand picked beans by albino monkeys in the forest of some place, if it doesn't taste good, then it's not for me, and it can be the simple picked beans from some small farm in some small place, as long as it tastes good it's for me) That's it make it taste good and forgot all the hippie stuff, with the dreadlock servers that think the ate so...
