I recently visited Combo A and had a rather disappointing experience. Although the young man who served me was cool and friendly, the overall quality of the food left much to be desired. I ordered a split of fried rice and chow fun, along with a double portion of orange chicken.
The appearance of the orange chicken was promising, with its appealing color and a nice glaze. However, each bite turned out to be disappointingly dry and almost inedible. It felt as though the chicken had been sitting under a heat lamp for several hours, resulting in a texture reminiscent of jerky. While the flavor was okay, being sweet as expected from orange chicken, the dryness overshadowed any enjoyment.
Moving on to the rice, I encountered the same issue - it was incredibly dry. Some of the rice kernels were even hard, beyond the point of being al dente. It seemed like the dish had been neglected, lacking the necessary attention and quality control during preparation.
On a more positive note, the chow fun dish was enjoyable. It was difficult to mess up such a classic dish, and this one delivered. The egg noodles had a nice texture, and the addition of egg and other ingredients made it flavorful and satisfying.
Overall, I left the restaurant feeling disappointed. I had seen this place countless times before and was intrigued by the name, expecting a surefire experience. However, my visit at 7pm on a Friday turned out to be lackluster. While it's possible that they were having a bad day, considering some negative reviews I had read previously, it's unfortunate that my experience did not meet my...
Read moreThey don’t list their prices. They do have a menu taped to a table but the prices are scratched out. ComboA read $7.25 but today it was $12.50. Only sign says prices are subject to change without warning lol.
There was once a cool guy working this counter (felt like owner) but these days it’s grumpy old ladies that barely speak English. They get offended very easily by any questions or confusion. In an ironic twist, after I asked if the green beans counted as a side or a meat and they kept saying 2 meats but then only giving me 1 meat (bc of green beans)… the lady looked at me deadpan and said “where are you from? You don’t speak English.” Then she scoffed to her colleague and they gave me a dirty look. I just look like a typical white dude and speak with a traditional American accent lol. I was also very patient and polite. If felt like a comedy sketch about reverse racism. Weird experimence overall. Service sucks. Ambiance sucks and...
Read moreCombo A's owner is impeccable! If you're reading this, this is the woman who typically orders the bbq fried rice or combo fried rice and ask for bbq pork juice to be poured over it. I ordered today through doordash through my partners account and it was high key a nightmare. When the second dasher was assigned and wasnt headed to the store, I called to clarify and the owner answered. He kept calling me back to give updates and it was just amazing service as always. I dont live near or work by there anymore so doordash is the best way to go when I can but he truly cares and it makes such a difference. I'll always keep coming back for the best chinese food Ive ever had! Even if its not your cup of tea, doesnt change the care and customer service he...
