I always grade on a relative scale to what you'd expect out of what one would expect out of a diner. This place has consistently the worst service I've ever seen. It's an embarrassing fact that it takes most servers (hardly all, as some are good, which makes me feel guilty) take 20 minutes to serve even coffee, 20 minutes to do a check, no organization in getting orders, etc. With such a poor sense of initiative, there is literally no point in tipping, as it encourages their continued mediocrity. What's the point of tipping when a customer has to come up and ask for more coffee, has to ask them for certain menus (e.g $2, $4, $6), and has to get a check. If all they are doing is bringing you food, which a customer has no choice on that, then that's a service no different from a cashier at McDonald's, which requires no tip.
It's entitlement...
This is obviously a failing on the part of night-shift management. The strength of your workers often come down to the strength of supervisors and junior managers. Where are they in being proactive? I've been to the Dennys in Westwood roughly 2 dozen times in three years, and this is a persistent problem at least 70% of the time. What a failure. But it's better here than Starbucks, as at least Dennys has food.
Nor can anyone accuse me of not knowing "how hard it is." I work in the service industry. I clean more, often execute with full efficiency humiliating orders set on making you feel stupid, and still get no tip no matter how hard you try. (This is the grocery business, after all, where you are paid the least for doing the most, with the least degree of gratitude.) In comparison, if you're a bartender, you will usually get at least a dollar for pouring a beer from tap, i.e. doing next to nothing.
Just an observation. Management needs to be coached seriously, because the Dennys in Westwood is an embarrassment. And I'm not even one who complains about much and can take a lot...because I get it. I don't get worthless service where workers stumble and fumble over pouring a simple coffee when I ask for no cream and sugar. No class whatsoever.
They will know who wrote this, and I expect them to spit in my food. Go ahead. I'd expect...

The vibe is always chill, with plenty of space and surprisingly easy parking (a rare find in these parts!). Plus, when it comes to productivity, no nearby coffee shop can hold a candle to the work-friendly atmosphere here. But beyond the convenience, what really sets Denny's apart is its unbeatable affordability paired with top-notch food and service.
I make it a point to swing by for breakfast at least once a week, and let me tell you, the grand slam never disappoints. Each dish is cooked to perfection, just the way I like it. And don't even get me started on their burgers â seriously, they're next level.
What truly seals the deal for me is the stellar service. From the waiters to the bussers, everyone here creates a welcoming yet laid-back environment. I never feel rushed or neglected; they strike that perfect balance between attentiveness and efficiency. And let's talk about Michelle, the manager â she's an absolute gem. Always going above and beyond to ensure I have the best experience possible, she truly elevates the dining experience at Denny's.
Overall, Denny's in Westwood is more than just a place to grab a meal â it's a sanctuary of good vibes and great eats. Sure, it might not be the fanciest spot in town, but with solid food, unbeatable prices, and a genuinely friendly atmosphere, it's become my go-to favorite. If you're in the mood for a laid-back dining experience that never disappoints, do yourself a favor and pay Denny's a visit. You...
Read moreAfter a long morning at UCLA Med Ctr, all I wanted to do was have breakfast. I was glad it was not busy - 2 occupied tables. "Wilma" hostess / service seated us and gave us menus. She did not offer us coffee or anything to drink. When she came to take our order I had to also ask her for coffee and water for my friend. A few more customers came in after us. We waited what seemed like half an hour. Wilma served the man sitting close to us who came in 10 minutes after us. I gave a her a look and she barely looked at me and said in whisper "your's is coming" and walked away. 20 minutes later my friend asked when our food would be coming. she left and 10 minutes later she came back to continue to take care of the man next to us. My friend again asked her how long will it take and why is everybody else - (who came in after us) being served. She leaves, later she comes back with our printed order and says "I'm sorry, I forgot to hand in your order" I'm thinking in the 50 minutes that we were there, she should have noticed - WE ARE NOT EATING!!!! WE HAVE NO FOOD ON OUR TABLE!!!! We got up and left. She said and did nothing to fix it. There was a diverse and colorful room of people, I would hate to think because I am Hispanic I was not served. After all Wilma could barely speak English and looked Hispanic or Filipino. So I don't think that was it. It was just lousy and real bad customer service. I feel she went out of her not...
