I'm an out of stater who travels to Los Angeles quite often . I've been trying the local scene in regards to tacos and I tried my first three spots: El Ruso, Tacos 1986 downtown and Sonora town LA downtown. I have to tell you, just based on the hype and the beautiful IGs, I was slightly disappointed. El Ruso was slightly better though and worth a shot. Here's the pros and one major con
Pros: meat was well seasoned. Better taste than the other two spots. Tortillas were absolutely on point. These are the thinner hand rolled variety that beautifully hold together its content. Everything fresh made. Service was friendly.
Con:. I hate fatty meat. Forgive me if as an out of towner I may not understand the regional differences in a cut of meat but this tasted like it was closer to a ribeye which gave it phenomenal taste but a very chewy texture. A new location has emerged today in Silverlake with the same great Sonora- style Mexican cuisine found at their LA and Boyle Heights locations.
They are famous for their award winning handmade flour tortillas and their mesquite grilled meats. The sobaquera (burrito) was good but I recommend the carne asada, birria, and chili colorado TACOS with burnt cheese and beans. Top it off with a squeeze of lime, their green guac sauce and a hint of their super spicy red sauce for the best synergistic taste. Disfruta!

They were just opening, but to make a long story short we ordered what was offered to us. The cashier thin guy was very nice. When I received my order i was short 1 plate I told a girl Diana that works there and she was the rudest person I have ever come across she was lazy at giving us our order then argued with me when I asked her for my plate with receipt in hand she treated me as if I was ripping her off so the thin cashier guy heard, he walked over yo our table and apologized he looked at our receipt and replaced the missing order. Again the food was good but service is bad. Not worth desling with Diana and...
