I ordered the beef short rib soup (갈비탕) while my dad ordered the spicy pork bone soup (감자탕) and mung bean pancake (빈대떡) to share.
The galbitang is advertised as wagyu beef but it’s not particularly better quality meat? Also, there wasn’t much meat in either the galbitang or gamjatang. At least in comparison to the amount they used to serve for individual servings.
The bindaetteok was a bit thick but overall a better choice than the seafood pancake (해물파전) I ordered here before. The seafood pancake is a bit too doughy in contrast to some of the thinner, crispier, haemul pajeon I have had at other Korean restaurants.
I have been to Haemaru more times than I count, so it hurts to give this restaurant a mediocre rating. I understand that this pandemic has been hard on restaurants, so it’s not surprising if they are trying to cut down on costs where they can.
The restaurant during the day is pretty empty. Can’t say if the atmosphere is more lively during the evening?
What I can say is that it is a bit of a shame that the quality of the food they serve is nowhere close to how...
Read moreCame in for dinner and it was not busy at all inside. They have valet parking lot in the back for $3. We were seated immediately and the menu was pretty simple. Inside was really big and spacious and really clean. We ordered the budae-jjigae and short ribs, but unfortunately they ran out of short ribs.
They gave us lots of sides and prepared the army stew. The budae-jigae was pretty spicy, but not unbearable. It came with sausage, spam, rice cakes, instant ramen, glass noodles, and kimchi/cabbage. I loved the rice cake shape, which was easier to grab. I think the portion would be perfect for 2-3 people.
I was pretty bummed that they ran out of short ribs, but thought the army stew was really good. I was impressed that inside was spacious and really clean. Parking is such a struggle, so I appreciate the parking lot right behind the restaurant. Next time I would try their...
Read moreOrdered haejanggook for myself. It was really good. Actually it was one of the best tasting haejanggook I have ever tasted so far. They have a variety Korean comfort soup. Sullungtang is an ox bone soup with brisket and other parts originated from Seoul area during the pre modern era. Haejanggook means “a soup for relieving hangover from drinking alcohol” and contains ox bone soup along with vegetables and particular or typically contains ox blood cake. Anyway it was very very tasteful and very fresh!! I will definitely recommend this restaurant for all kinds of Korean style comfort soups and I...
