Wholeheartedly, what a wonderful experience. Every dish was without disappointment, and you know how hard it is to be noteworthy dish after dish? Had the Maitake Mushroom, Uni Toast, Scallop, Cauliflower, Duck, a small sake, and a main of Fish (oh, and dessert). All those garnishes and sauces actually contribute to a unique flavor, they are not there just for looks (which many other establishment can be guilty of). Let's be clear, its not cheap, but [near]-perfection shouldn't be. Hats off to the chefs and owner. Maitake: delicately balance as the first course, the mushroom itself is smokey but complimented greatly from the heavier sauce below. Uni Toast: cheese, sourdough, uni, ikura, omg flavor bomb. Scallop: I thought what else can you deviate from scallops, but the added white kimchee and other sauces made this a standout from the regular, standard sear scallop. Cauliflower: while still good on its own, but compare to the others this perhaps is the weaker offering. If you don't like Maitake and want a veggie dish then order this. Duck: duck is medium rare and tender and juicy as expected, what's not expected is the rice underneath it, i felt the rice was as good as the duck itself. Main Course Catch/Fish: nicely grilled, love the beurre blanc sauce, my wife who is Singaporean love the hainan chicken rice on the side. I myself love the pickle sides that go great with the rice. Dessert is the Carmel with...
ย ย ย Read moreI came here for sushi as advertised , they had no sushi rolls for some reason . The had a make shift menu of their attempt gourmet Japanese food. Completely expensive and small Un-filling portions . The owner kept comming over and explaining each dish. He was a weirdo. Completely sweaty and mumbling. It was awkward and long and interrupting our dinner conversations. The food was taking forever so my date and I finished our cokes and ordered another. The waitress (Who was lovely) put in the order for our second cokes and we heard the owner say to her โthey ordered 4 cokes? Is that a mistake ?? Wow โ implying we are fat or something? The food was honestly not good and I donโt get how theyโre trying to be a gourmet restaurant when itโs literally So tiny and in a shopping center with a view of a parking lot out the window. Atmosphere inside is trash the service is terrible and the food tasted awful. The owner is a complete weirdo. We are never coming back And I do not recommend going here to anyone. If you want good Japanese food thatโs not sushi there are so many places around that are way more Tasty and better dinner atmosphere inside. Waste of my...
ย ย ย Read moreA while ago, during LA restaurant week, a friend recommended this small fine dining restaurant called hibi., located in an inconspicuous plaza in Koreatown. The restaurant week menu is the same as their usual menu, but the price is a little cheaper so it's a good deal. There are 7 dishes in total, and it's really a surprise!
All the dishes are delicious! It's a Japanese-Korean fusion restaurant so every dish has a flavor that suits my Asian stomach. There are uni sea urchins, wagyu beef, and lamb chops. There was just one dish that confused me. It was labeled geoduck (the foam clay pot rice) but what I ate was clearly abalone. But then I forgot to ask where the geoduck was. How could I, who loves geoduck so much, not tell it apart? But it doesn't matter, it's delicious anyway. The black sesame ice cream for dessert is also delicious.
They change the menu every season, but the quality should be guaranteed. Anyways, I like it very much. The only downside is that they are a little slow in serving the food, but I can wait for the...
