I had been wanting to try Mofongos since they first opened. I was sooo excited to finally try them today, all to be completely disappointed. I ordered ahead of my arrival and received a text saying it was ready, yet still had to wait another 12 minutes. Biggest mistake was opening my package of food after leaving the premises; the food was NOT hot (let me just say, it wasn't even warm) very dry and most of all it lacked flavor. I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked inside the bag/box to see what I paid $18 for. I thought, is this some kind of joke!?? (See photos) Needless to say, I won't be back. Sooo disappointed and what a waste of money. 😩 I got the Mofongo with chicharrones and pernil. This is exactly what I got -see photo (I had not yet taken a single bite). The Mofongo was way too dry, and plain. I wanted to love it, I really did; but couldn't even eat it. I know I could make it at home for My first time, and guarantee you I'll have better results and FLAVOR. The pernil looked like a cut up old pork chop. Never again! 😩 I definitely want my money back. I don't live in the area and won't be back. Just refund my credit card please. Added after my review: how I WISH I had read the other reviews before ever placing my order. Even Puerto Ricans are disappointed in this food, so it's not just me. Another review describes the food exactly how I felt it was: pathetic. *Adding this a few weeks after visiting: I emailed the manager, no reply AND no one has replied to this review, so that should tell you all you need to know about the customer service at this establishment they are calling...
Read moreIf you're looking for traditional Puerto Rican cuisine done right then this IS the place to go to in LA. Mofongos in North Hollywood is a cozy, small restaurant and you'll have to find street parking, but worth going out if you want legitimate Puerto Rican food!
Their Mofongos is very well-made and a hearty dish that is perfect for when you need something comforting and filling. The sweet plantains will accompany the dish as well and are known as "Amarillos" that helps to balance the savory and thick mofongo. You can get it topped with various proteins, but I went the classic route and got the Pollo Guisados.
Also, if you want a sampling of their appetizers, get the De Todo Un Poco Platter, which will have all of the classic Puerto Rican appetizers. Super delish and my favorite was the Pasteles and Alcapurrias! Soooo good!! Classic street-style food elevated!
For drinks, if you like eggnog then get the Coquito which is a fabulous coconutty and rum filled drink that is sooo succulent and creamy. It's popular around the holiday season so this is a must now!
Lastly, another classic dessert is the Tembleque, which is like a coconut pudding. Not overly sweet and extra creamy as well. Very well made and it shakes just as what its name means! jiggle, jiggle
Overall, the perfect place to get some exceptionally well-made and legitimate Puerto Rican cuisine! Definitely...
Read moreI want to start off by saying that I have worked in the restaurant industry for 18 years! I've served, bussed, ran food , and am a bartender. With all of that said, with all of the restaurant patience and understanding that comes with that, this was one of the WORST service experiences I have had. We ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees, easy enough right? 40 min later I asked our server who had not checked in on us ONCE since taking our order "Do you know how much longer for the papas rellenas?" He answered "10 more minutes" and walked away. No apology for the wait or lack of communication. About 15 minutes later, let's say 10 to be nice (an hour after ordering) our entrees came out. Still no appetizer.... so we asked the food runner about them and he had them at our table in less than 2 minutes. Our Server NEVER checked in with us, I had to go to the register to ask for refills, I had to go and get my own hot sauce, truly he didn't do ANYTHING else. Then the this man has the audacity to drop off a full check, no comped apps or anything. I tipped cause I don't think it's ok to ever NOT tip but I was very close to leaving nothing. I will definitely NOT recommend this place to people and will def tell them not to go here when it comes up. The only reason I'm even giving one star is cause the food was good. But if you're looking to enjoy your experience go...
