Salt and straw is amazing. At first glance, you'll see a long line winding out the door (always, so don't walk inside), but the line moves super fast. There are meter parking spots behind the store as well as along the street.
As you get to the door, occasionally there is someone handing out samples and menus so that you can decide what other ice cream you want to try. If there isn't someone handing out menus, there is a large menu right before you walk into the door.
Some of the flavors are on rotation according what ingredients are available. In my opinion, the combination of flavors are all interesting and sometimes can even sound off-putting, but I have never tried anything I thought was bad tasting. You can also view what flavors are available on their website as well. In any case, you can request to try anything you're curious about before purchasing. You can purchase one or two scoops in either a cup, cone, or a waffle cone (for an extra charge). They also sell ice cream/root beer floats, which are delicious, and pints of ice cream for those who could do without waiting in line for their favorite ice cream.
After purchasing, they have a small area in the front of the store where you can stand and enjoy your ice cream. It can get a little crowded but people move in and out quickly.
All in all, this is a favorite dessert spot for me and my friends and we are always returning to try the new flavors and the...
Read moreI've been there at least three times in the past and I found the atmosphere festive and fun. The staff is friendly, but too obsessed with handing out samples versus actually servicing the customer. I'm not a fan of lines in general, but the staff aggravates the problem by offering endless samples! The couple in front of me had seven (7) samples and I knew this due to the clanking of the spoons into the metal jar. I ordered a full-pint strawberry shake which is $10.50. The server took more than 10 minutes to devise this shake as he struggled to even manage the machine as he remeasured the milk and ice cream several times. I noticed he used whole milk from a near depleted gallon container that sat in front of the fridge below. I got the feeling from the film inside the container the milk might be warm, sour or both. After finally receiving my shake that was stuffed in an undersized container, it was apparent after a few sips the shake was in fact spoiled. I brought the shake back inside and indicated to one of the servers my dilemma who said nothing while he was servicing an existing order. I walked outside and watched my friend enjoy his ice cream cone. No one came out to speak with me, but they were sure to get that overpriced, spoiled shake off the counter. Mediocre ice cream that's overpriced is not my idea of desert, but a consumer rip-off. Needless to say that was my...
Read moreOne of the classic dessert spots to grab ice cream in LA. It has some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had (the salted malted chocolate chip cookie dough) and they have seasonal flavors as well. Came here at 10pm on a Saturday night and there was still a line through the door. Luckily, it moved fairly quickly! They’re currently not giving samples due to covid but they did have an employee at the door to answer your questions. Street parking (it’s tough so you may need to circle around). Credit cards are accepted. There’s a bathroom available. No indoor dining but there are a couple of benches outside to sit and eat your ice cream.
There are flavors that are perennially available as well as a rotating list of seasonal specials. The honey lavender is a good option for something light and always available. This time, I opted for the yogurt lassi with raspberries, which was very tart and creamy. I always get my ice cream in a waffle cone, which are freshly made and have such a delicious crunch. You can also get pints...
