The best skate park and skaters I’ve ever seen! Surely there may be larger and deeper courses elsewhere, tho here by the ocean, the look and sound of the surf and the cool ocean breezes make it a great place to be! Notwithstanding the crowd of spectators who gather to watch, skaters here ‘come with the territory’. When I have visitors who want to see Venice Beach, I’ll have them walk over to the park to see the action. The skillful ability and agility at any given moment of the day here by skateboarders is amazing! It was nice to see to skatepark open again after being filled with sand a few months ago, during the pandemic restrictions. Now once again, it’s possible to access the park from the west end of Windward Ave, past the 60’ steel sculpture art at Windward Plaza. Carefully continue on the walkway past the painted palm trunks, just a short walk to the north, between the Boardwalk and the ocean shore. Best not to throw caution to the wind, taking in the awesome views and photo’s along the way… Keeping in mind to look both ways while crossing the bike trail, and watch out for people with kids criss-crossing the sand. Better to keep moving safely with awareness, ‘til reaching a safe spot to stop, and vice versa! Since this place is a park within a park (Venice Beach Park N.), all the same great stuff is available with the shops, vendors and artist’s. And for visitors who wish to join in the fun, there’s the Venice Boardwalk bike and skateboard rentals to borrow from, with one of the shops at the northwest end of Windward Av. The same parking scenarios and the same transit access as the Boardwalk are also the options. There’s also a restroom structure across the sand to the north east, back near the Boardwalk. An LAPD guard has been present to ensure public safety and quell potential conflicts. It’s on the sand, west of Market Street a few feet away from the surf. There’s occasional beach sand that accumulates in the deep spots on windy days, tho minimized away from the loose sand and raised where downwind blown sand is less of a problem. Better to have athletic Vans type of shoes to get there and then if rolling, to be able to stay there...

Read moreThe skatepark in Venice Beach isn’t just a hotspot for skaters from around the world – it’s a place of true cult status. You’re riding on historic ground here: it was in Venice, back in the 1970s, that the Z-Boys crew gave birth to modern street-style skateboarding. The Z-Boys – a group of teenage surfers from Dogtown (the rough area between Santa Monica and Venice) – revolutionized the sport by translating their aggressive surf style to the pavement, creating a bold, fluid way of skating that changed everything. Their influence still defines skate culture today.
The park itself is well-maintained, right on the beach, and offers a perfect mix of bowls, rails, and street elements. One of the highlights: the sunset light, when the Pacific glows golden and skaters perform their tricks in true California style. A must-see for anyone who loves skate culture – whether you’re on a board or...
