All the people who work here are either completely mentally slow or too stoned to know their head from their own butt.||||My friend and I were disgusted by the place as soon as we were checking in. The seats were so stained I didn’t feel comfortable leaning back in my chair at check in, which by the way took 40 minutes. ||||They ended up charging us for a $50 security deposit and like $60 tax which was never advertised. So I ended up paying twice as much than what was expected. ||||They gave us 1 key to share which I thought was a little weird because there was two of us. But whatever at least we were finally checked in.||||The room was filthy, the carpet seems like it was put in in the 70’s, and the toilet was so worn out that all the paint peeled off the seat and it was like grey metal. Our room was right next to the smoking area so the whole place just reeked of cigarettes. Needless to say we tried to get out of there and onto the beach ASAP.||||We went out, had a fun time then return to our room. ||||In the morning we were awoken at 5:30AM by a 60 year old toothless British women literally yelling “HEY! HEEEEY! HEYYY!!... I’m gonna go out for a cigarette.” Like what? Why? Did she want us to join her? So many questions..||||Breakfast was a joke, they made the waffle batter at 1AM the night before and left it sitting out until breakfast time... not to mention PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO SMOKE IN THE KITCHEN BETWEEN 8PM TO 8AM. No wonder the place is so danky and stained, they literally let people smoke inside. Like this has to be illegal. So thanks VBH for the ciggie filled waffles and the 2nd hand smoke in our sleep. We were also allowed 1 egg each that must have been boiled days ago because they stunk.||||The whole experience was so awful that my friend and I asked to leave a day early. They said they wouldn’t give me my money back for the extra day... ||Sure fine, I would rather waste money than spend another day in that hole. So we grabbed our things then checked out with the guy at the front desk and got the eff outta dodge.||||It wasn’t until 3 hours later when I was on the other side of LA that I realised the guy never asked for our key back. Probably because he was high... like dude that’s your job, to get the key off of people leaving your establishment when they check out.||||Luckily I happened to be in town Tuesday to return it. But when I arrived at the front desk they asked me “where’s the other key”. What other key. They charged me an extra $20 for 2 missing keys. Mate... the key isn’t missing, it’s in your god damn hand right now and there was no second key.||||They said they would email me when the guy who checked me in days ago can vouch to say that I only received one key. Great so I have to wait on the word of a smoked out degenerate. Now they are blatantly ignoring my emails.||||It just $20 so it doesn’t seem like that much, BUT, the fact that we paid for an additional night when we weren’t there because we literally could not stand being there anymore... plus them trying to scam me out of money just pisses me off. ||||So screw this place. Read moreThe location for those who want to get to know Venice and Santa Monica is perfect!
Note: I stayed for more than 10 days in a female shared room. Take this into consideration ok!?
Located exactly on the corner of the famous VENICE SIGN, the hostel is close to everything! 1 block (a few steps) from the beach and also from the famous Venice boardwalk where there is the local market, local artisans, the famous skate park, the Public Art academy "Arnold Schwarzenegger", events and much more. A few blocks from Main Street and Rose Ave, main streets where you will find countless bars, restaurants, breakfast and happy hour with more affordable beers and drinks. The Venice Sign is a dead end street that ends at the promenade if you don't know, in the summer there is movement during the day and we must point out here: it is very noisy at night on weekends so be aware of that, you are in VENICE BEACH! Enjoy it and don't be blah blah.
On the other side will be the Venice Canal and the Venice pier. On the Santa Mônica side, you will be just a few minutes from Park Pier Santa Mônica and you can go by bike, scooter or even a nice walk along the boardwalk. Anyway... the location is perfect!
About the hostel: like 80% of the buildings and houses in the region, the building is old and, let's say, well maintained but without major renovations. It’s rustic and reminds me a lot of the diversity of the place.
I felt safe every day of my stay, which totaled more than 10 days. I even left my bags open (without a padlock) and everything went well. Everyone who arrived and left were incredible travelers full of stories to tell. One night or another the noise from the street got a little annoying but at 2am everything closes so if you don't agree with that, maybe this isn't a place for you.
The room I stayed in was Female Shared. I loved it because the room is big and I could be comfortable with 2 large suitcases that I had bought. There was cleaning every day and the cleaners are extremely polite and friendly! I really appreciate this!
Breakfast is simple so don't create expectations about it. There is always coffee and tea available for guests.
The kitchen is always clean and organized and the cleaners wash the floor and all utensils every night.
Yoshi was lovely throughout my stay and always very kind, although I didn't speak English very well, he made an effort to serve me in the best way possible. Cory and all the employees are kind and helpful! It was a good experience for me!
We had problems with the bathroom sink that one of the girls blocked and this was resolved quickly.
Negative point: not being able to understand the stay longer! But I understand that these are rules for the entire city. :(
All in all, it was a good experience and I hope to be able to return soon!
A hug to everyone who made this stay a pleasant and peaceful...
