We went there on a whim when were looking for a romantic place to have a nice meal. We found parking to be in a sketchy little lot with a guard watching something on his little TV, but at least he was there watching over the cars. Walking down into the restaurant was a challenge as the stairs are steep and the handrail is not super useful, but it is manageable if you take your time when you can't move quickly. However, once you go in, you are transported back to a different era where the seats are almost spread like a speakeasy and the wait staff is mostly on point. The waitstaff was really quite good to be honest. However,.... We got the crispy artichokes as an appetizer. They were not crispy, nor were they tasty. It was like they had been pickled, then frozen, then microwaved. They were inedible. As main course, we got sirloin and prime rib. The sirloin was tough as if it had been frozen, then thawed quickly, and grilled. The prime rib was fairly well done, if not seasoned. The mixed vegetables were clearly only broccoli and had been frozen as well. We decided to try a warm apple tart as dessert. That was soft, tasteless, and cold. We had several mixed drinks as well. If you can get through the over pour or the under pour, and the fact that the mixed drinks are $15 a piece, they aren't bad. I do recommend the chocolate martini. By the time we left, the place was hopping and very busy. The staff told us that reservations are always recommended after 5 on Friday and Saturday, but I don't see why. All in all, the food was gross but the service was good.

The Dresden has the vibe and history, but the food has really slipped into mediocrity the last couple of times I’ve been. I usually order the salmon, but it’s been consistently bland and forgettable. My husband’s second attempt at the filet mignon came with a béarnaise sauce that was way too thick, lumpy, and gritty, with a strange chemical taste. It completely lacked the smooth, creamy consistency you’d expect from a proper béarnaise. The steak itself, however, was cooked perfectly medium rare and was excellent. His sides of potatoes and broccoli were just basic. The Caesar salad was another letdown — very mild in flavor and in desperate need of more lemon and some anchovies to give it that tangy, umami kick that makes a Caesar shine. The escargot was just okay; two shells were completely empty, and the ones that did have something inside were tough to remove. Honestly, I’ve had better escargot on a cruise ship. Service is usually a highlight here, and our waiter was as nice and friendly as ever, but this time it was slow and dragged the evening out. My husband’s martini was even forgotten and didn’t arrive until after our food. That said, once the drinks came, they reminded me why people still love this place — strong, classic cocktails that fit the iconic atmosphere perfectly. Bottom line: come for the cocktails and the old-school vibe, especially with the live jazz, and you’ll have a good time. But if you’re looking for a memorable meal, you’ll probably leave disappointed.

I’ve been wanting to try The Dresden for a while, and finally booked a table on a Saturday night. Surprisingly, the dining area wasn’t very busy, and I quickly saw why. The dining room itself feels a bit outdated, and while service was attentive and friendly, the food was disappointing. We started with fried calamari, which unfortunately was rubbery and not fresh, so I had to send it back. For mains, I ordered steak and shrimp scampi — both were just average, with the shrimp lacking freshness and flavor. Overall, the food didn’t justify coming here for dinner. Afterwards, I moved to the lounge, and that’s when the night turned around. The live jazz band created a fantastic atmosphere, and the lounge was lively, fun, and exactly what I had hoped for. Bottom line: Skip the dining room, but definitely come for drinks, the vibe, and the live music. Perfect spot for cocktails and jazz, not for a memorable dinner

Let me first add that although the vibes and atmosphere of this place is amazing, the service is not. And this review will be long. Fair Warning

I absolutely hate being that person because I know what it is like to work in the service industry. Sometimes you just have a bad day. Which is why I will typically patronize a place 2-3 times before I leave a review. IF I leave a review. I usually just don't care enough.

I would literally rather sweep sand off of the beach than visit this place again. I went in for jazz night last week on the 5th of dec with some old co-workers. I'd never been to this place and when I walked in, I was so excited. It's beautiful. It was packed and live music was being played. I was in heaven.

There were no available tables so my girls and I waited by the door for someone to scram. I figured we'd be waiting a while so I walked over to the bar to grab a drink. The bartender completely ignored me and continued to have a conversation with the cute guy already sitting there. This is something I don't typically care about and not something I would write a bad review about. So this review isn't about that, but I thought I'd add it because it only went downhill from there.

It wasn't a long wait..maybe 3-4 minutes tops and then she finally came over to ask me what I needed. Not very friendly but whatever. The drink was expensive but she did such a great job on it that I thought it was well worth it.

As soon as I'm handed my drink, my friends beckon me over to a booth that they were able to secure. I walk over and before I can even sit down, the waitress(older lady, rogue from X-Men hair) literally yells at me "I need your card to start a tab because this is table service only." Not yelling in a " hey, it's loud in here, I want you to be able to hear me" way. No, she yelled in my face with the nastiest attitude I've ever received from anyone in service industry. EVER. I was so taken aback that all I could say was "okay".

Once she came back(same nasty attitude), she reminded me again that it was table service only. I tell her to go and get my card if it was that serious, to which she replied that it was and that she needed my last name so she could go and get it.

Once she came back a 3rd time and asked my friends for their orders I spoke up(not very nicely) and told her "Listen, I did not realize that there was a certain way you guys do things here. I've never been here before and we were waiting on a table. I'm not gonna just leave my drink over there or sit at the bar when the 4 of my friends are at this booth. You have a really nasty attitude and I do NOT appreciate it. There were better ways to approach me than the way that you did"

You know how she responded? Not with sorry or any type of remorse. But with "well, it's busy in here and I don't have time to--"Who knows what she was going say.

By this point I am heated. I cut her off & tell her that I don't care what her excuse is..her attitude is nasty and that she needed to watch it. She gets quiet and doesn't say another word, which was probably best.

She places our glasses down on the table. Well theirs at least. She slams my water glass down in front of me. Lady, you are 50..not 2. It was noticable because after she slams mine down, she sets the glass of my friend next to me so carefully and we all look at one another. She asks for our orders and once she gets to me, I tell her straight up that I didn't want ANYTHING from her and that I would get my own stuff.

When she comes back with their orders, she tells me that she went ahead and left my card at the bar in the sweetest voice I heard from her all night. -_-

The 2 stars are for the...

Let me start by saying that I am very disappointed with this place . When we first arrived . We went straight to the lounge area . As we wanted to have dinner and drinks . Once we were told that they only serve appetizers sandwiches in the lounge area . We decided to get a table on the other side where they serve a full dinner menu . Everything was going great , until our food arrived and I asked the waiter for thousand island dressing for my fries . He immediately replied with a no in a very rude tone and walked away . At that pointed I was very bothered by his behavior . I decided that I was just going to enjoy my dinner with my fiancé . As we continued through our dinner . Not once did he come and asked if we needed anything else , if we were ready for another drink etc . “NOTHING” he disappeared for the whole time we were there . We saw the bus boys more than what we saw our server . The restaurant wasn’t busy to where they can say , they were overwhelmed. At the end I was very upset with the service that was given to us . We were treated as if we didn’t exist. Once we were done one of the bus boys came and asked if we wanted a dessert . That’s when I said no . I was very unhappy with their service . He then went to go tell our actual waiter that we were upset . That’s when he finally decided to come to our table and asked if we wanted desert . I replied no . Asked for my bill. Paid and ask to speak to the manager . Once the manager came up to me , I expressed my unpleasant experience with customer service and all he did was try in find excuses on why his strongest server was not performing as he usually does . It’s unfortunate that we will not be returning to this restaurant again as our food was delicious. Thank you for our dinner proposal...

A Fortunate Twist of Fate: Dining at The Dresden

Sometimes the best meals are found by chance. Our family of seven had originally chosen another nearby restaurant, but after a frosty welcome from the host, we turned around and let serendipity guide us. Just a few steps away, we walked into The Dresden, not knowing what to expect—and what a discovery it turned out to be.

From the very start, the difference was night and day. The host at The Dresden greeted us warmly, and without hesitation, made accommodations for our group of seven—even on a night when we had no reservation. Her graciousness set the tone for the entire evening.

The service was nothing short of impeccable. Our server struck the perfect balance of professionalism and personality, offering thoughtful suggestions for first-timers like us. Every member of the team, from bussers to servers, worked in seamless rhythm—smiles, attention to detail, and genuine care infused into each interaction. It felt less like dinner service and more like a well-conducted symphony, where every role mattered and every note was in tune.

The food itself? Exceptional. Each plate delivered the kind of quality you’d expect from fine dining, yet without pretension. Every bite reflected both craft and care. Combined with the attentive service, it made for an experience far beyond what we had anticipated when we wandered in by sheer luck.

What began as a frustrating evening quickly transformed into one of our most memorable dining experiences. The Dresden turned a disappointing start into an unforgettable finish, reminding us that sometimes the best nights are the ones you never planned for.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A hidden gem we’ll be returning to, not by chance,...
