This restaurant offers a fast-casual dining experience that may not be for everyone. Upon entering, you’re prompted to review the menu and place your order at the counter. If there’s a line behind you, it can feel rushed, leaving little time to make a thoughtful decision. The ordering process feels more like a fast-food setup, where you place your order at the counter, and they bring your food to the table. Personally, I prefer the traditional dining experience, where you sit down, have your order taken, and pay after the meal.
It seems this restaurant doesn’t fully trust its patrons, which might be tied to its downtown Louisville location. They even have a menu item called “ghetto gravy,” which feels like a nod to the theme.
On a positive note, the staff was friendly, and the restaurant was clean. You do need to serve your own coffee, but they offer a great happy hour from 7:00 to 9:30 AM, with half-off drinks—a definite perk.
If you order the hot cocoa (made with Milk), skip the whipped cream to get a fuller cup. With whipped cream, you end up with half a cup of cocoa, which feels like a sneaky way to reduce portions.
For food, I ordered eggs (cooked in oil, not butter) and a side of bacon, which is baked in the oven. I also had a plain biscuit, served with their berry jelly, honey, and butter. The biscuit was incredibly fresh, and the jam paired wonderfully with a touch of honey. That was a pleasant surprise.
We also tried the “ghetto gravy,” a biscuit topped with gravy. Unfortunately, it wasn’t great. On the other hand, the donut holes served with berry jam were decent, though we paid an extra $0.50 for cream cheese butter, which was tasty but not remarkable.
The atmosphere was bright and clean, with mason jars on the tables holding utensils, though oddly no spoons. Napkins, salt, and pepper were also provided, along with a sign reminding you to order at the counter before sitting down—another nod to their self-serve style.
Overall, the experience was just okay. While the food had its moments, the setup felt rushed and impersonal. If we were to return, it’d likely be for takeout rather than dining in. I’d rather enjoy food that feels homemade without the...
Read moreThey give you a number you display at your table so staff can quickly find you so you’re enjoying your meal fresh out the kitchen which seems like a small detail but it shows the management has put thought and effort into providing the best customer experience! The Food’s not even here and I’m already impressed! I’m glad I got the “Boozy Bird” and my spouse was so jealous we’re going back so she can try the mouth watering biscuits in the Bourbon Maple Syrup!😋 (might have to spend the extra $4.50 for the shot glass of Bourbon to add on the side and take home as a souvenir) The home fries were crisp and nicely seasoned. My spouse isn’t a big fan of grits but she loved the the flavor the cheese added and will get them again!
Update: The staff member who brought out our food remembered us from the day before which shows they’re observant. The kitchen didn’t miss a detail either, my Berry Jamilow pancakes perfectly balanced the fruity sweetness with a blend of savory butter but the literal icing on top was the Bourbon Cream Cheese Icing. Yum! My wife loved the biscuit and Bourbon Maple Syrup as a meal😋 Big Thank You to the fantastic staff!
Make sure to get an earlier start on Weekends cause Biscuit Belly gets busy. We got there at 9 AM on Sunday and were surprised it wasn’t busier but by the time we left around 9:40 there were a handful of people waiting outside so a half hour can make a big difference on your wait time to get inside. Monday morning was far less busy, we even had the place all to...
Read moreBiscuit Belly in Louisville is an absolute gem! My wife & I recently had the pleasure of dining at this delightful establishment, and it left us with full bellies and a great breakfast experience.
Let's start with the star of the show: the biscuits. In general, I'm not the biggest biscuit fan but these were some tasty biscuits! They were fluffy, buttery, and perfectly golden brown on the outside, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Whether you're in the mood for classic buttermilk biscuits or more adventurous options like the Hot Brown or Fried Chicken biscuits, Biscuit Belly has you covered.
I opted for the Belly Buster because, why not! They weren't messing around. A biscuit sandwich w/ fried chicken, sausage, bacon, brisket, cheddar cheese, over easy egg & mushroom gravy? It's easily a meal for two. It had so much meat there was a lot of flavor going on.
I also got the loaded breakfast tots (sausage & cheddar stuffed toys w/ sweet maple mayo sauce) on the way side. I don't know who came up with this but this was pure decedence.
My wife enjoyed the cheesy grits & admitted it should be the standard for how grits are prepared.
The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting, with a charming rustic aesthetic that complements the delicious food. The seating is comfortable, and the overall atmosphere is vibrant and lively. It's a fantastic place to enjoy a meal with friends, family, or even for a solo...
