This place was our first place we had a meal in Louisville, so it definitely set the bar high. I called ahead and got an early reservation and was glad that I did because it started getting pretty busy pretty early. The decor and ambience was great, loved the exposed brick and the projected light pattern on the brick wall. Our waitress was very sweet and personable. We started off with salads. I picked the shaved brussel sprout salad. Honestly, I was not a fan of this salad. The salad lacked flavor except for the occasional cherry or apple. I think that if the brussel spouts would have been charred, grilled, or broiled that would have been good. The other salad we tried was the pecan and pear salad. This salad was actually great. It came with a big ball of jalapeño bleu cheese ice cream in the middle- YES I SAID ICE CREAM. THIS... this I SAID, was genius. I have never in my life had my husband fight me for salad. He fights me for everything else, but not salad. Well, not today people. We were playing musical forks fighting for the last bite. This salad is magical. For the dinner I ordered the Ravioli stuffed with goat cheese served with spicy carrot, cauliflower, pine nuts and parsley. This dish was to die for. I LOVE goat cheese so I knew I was going to love this dish, but the pine nuts and the spicy carrots were a nice touch. My husband ordered the Lola's favorite Southern Burger with pimento cheese, brussel sprout slaw, bacon jam, and fries. The pimento cheese and the bacon jam were a party in your mouth together! This burger was amazing. The fries were also so great because they are fried in cotton seed oil and it allows you to taste more of the potato. My husband actually thinks this counts as eating a vegetable because of that fact (he will kill me for writing that lol). When we went to pay our tab I loved that they served it in these little paper slips with vintage photos. Then she gave us a fun treat to take with us. She told us that the brownies were made with a local chocolate that they buy from the local market and they were gluten free. I couldn't wait to try them ( I was just so full up to my eyeballs). About 30 minutes later I went to eat my brownie (it was wrapped in wax paper and then placed in a paper bag) and it was all melty and kinda not edible, unless I wanted to scrape the wax paper with my teeth and tongue.....truth me I thought about it for a second and my husband snatched it away from me before I could embarrass myself. This was a bummer, but I can see how it would happen because I suspect these brownies have no flour in them. Overall, this place is superb and a must try! Oh and even though it has nothing to do with the business you get to see a lovely "LOVE" mural when entering and exiting the restaurant. BTW they have an excellent selection of wines and alcohol. I had a...
Read moreOrdered off UberEats. We ordered the andes cruffin, pumpkin creme brûlée croissant, sausage biscuit with peppered jelly, bacon white cheddar croissant, apple snickerdoodle cookie, chocolate chunk cookie, and bourbon barrel sugar cookie.
Andes Cruffin: great size! The presentation first off is absolutely beautiful. Made us feel like we were in NYC or something. It was stuffed better than we expected. Downside is wife said it tastes a little TOO minty but overall good. 7/10
Pumpkin creme brûlée supreme: again, presentation flawless. It is STUFFED! It tastes like a pumpkin pie inside. The popcorn on exterior is delish. 9/10
Sausage biscuit pepper jelly: THIS IS SO GOOD! The biscuit is so soft and buttery. It could use a TAD bit more jelly on it but overall this was our fav. 9.5/10
Bacon white cheddar croissant: this was super disappointing. The bacon inside is rock hard, the thought was good but it just layers of bacon stacked inside a croissant so its hard to chew when the bacon is so hard. The cheese on top in the pics looked like it was more of a melted cheese but its a quarter slice of cheese and just put in microwave it looks like to melt it. It was super cold. It wasnt good. We were let down on this one. Could use maybe a sauce and maybe some actual cheese poured and not just a quarter slice thrown on top. Felt like an after thought. 3/10
Cookies: the apple snickerdoodle has 0 apple flavor. It tastes EXACTLY like a normal sugar cookie with sugar on top. Disappointed. But the sugar cookie is really good and soft. 6/10 The bourbon barrel cookie again, tastes just like a good sugar cookie. It is soft when warmed up. Probably one of my fav sugar cookies. 7.5/10 The chocolate chunk cookie was probably the biggest letdown. Its hard and not soft, the chocolate is a little more bitter. Im a cookie snob but this wasnt my fav. 6/10.
Overall we enjoyed the experience. It came in a great box and again presentation was super fancy and made us feel like we were on vacation which we LOVED. Would we do it again, we would but the only thing we feel we would for sure order again is the...
Read moreMy bicycling group IG @outsiderscycling502 recommended my husband and I try Butchertown Grocery Bakery for a date night. We are always looking for new places to go since we've been so many places over the last 20 years :)
I dropped by on a Monday to pick up a croissant. I love to get a plain croissant as my first taste of any bakery. I bought my 18 y/o chocolat au pain, and dh a Apple Butter Cruffin.
The croissant was delicious, not quite crunchy enough on the outside for my tastes, but an absolutely delicious croissant none-the-less. Unfortunately, with my recent visit to France, I am too picky for my own good. Do not let my outlandish expectations fool you, I will be getting 10 more. The only thing missing, that I didn't think to ask for, and wasn't offered as a purchase (ya know do you want fries with that?), butter and/or jam. Not their fault at all, I appreciate no pressure at the register, but I am also super forgetful. Next time, I'm getting butter and jam. My child wasn't impressed with the chocolat au pain, but again, we were just in France.
The Cruffin though. The CRUFFIN could probably support the whole bakery. OMGoodNESS. The outside is like a croissant rolled in cinnamon-sugar, but it's not overwhelmingly sweet. I didn't eat the apple butter, but DH thought it was the most amazing pastry he's had in forever. and it's HUGE. We ate half yesterday, and I had a few bites for breakfast this am, and there's still half left! Well worth the money.
Oh, I also got a Flat White (2 espresso shots & frothed milk), and it was delicious. There was a gorgeous goth woman barista who was absolutely killing the cafe side of things. I love watching people who are skilled at the trade work. It is magical. Very friendly, courteous.
It was busy, but a few seats were available inside, and all 10ish tables were available outside. It was...
