I was in on Friday visiting my friend (a LOU native) and wanted to try something new. She informed me of Grind and said that her and her boyfriend "had been eating there a lot lately and it was fantastic!". I wasn't really in the mood for a burger but the more she talked the more I really wanted to try this unique spot.
Upon arrival there were maybe five people dining inside. And the atmosphere was rustic yet simple and the people at the bar/ order area were very nice. My friend had been getting the B&B burger and wanted me to try it, I am not the biggest fan or Brie so I asked what the order taker would recommend.. he said everything was good so I asked about a special. He then pointed me to the special burger which sounded very good. Mustard seed cheese and a bacon scotch jam (how could I say no?!) I ordered the burger with no pink (he suggested medium well, that is would be mostly brown with a slight pink tint to the center, I complied) and kale salad as my side and went to find a seat.
After patiently waiting for about 10 minutes (about average for a fresh burger) my friends burger arrived at the table first. The presentation of this plate was right on point. She started to eat and my mouth was watering. After about 5 more minutes My burger arrived at the table (which also looked fantastic). I went for the kale salad first which was very savory yet lite, and then the burger. I bit down on my burger and realized something wasn't right.
Though I had eaten my kale salad first a burger shouldn't be that cold... I released my bite to see just what I was eating. A severely under cooked burger patty. Cold. under the patty? A soggy bun soaked with what most people call blood (red bodily juices). I returned the burger to the front and they acted like it was a common occurrence. "Oh we will get you a cooked one out right away." By this time my friend was done eating and I was again waiting for my burger. It arrived hot and fresh and I devoured it.
Hours later I am looking at my friend and she looks unwell. She takes me back to my car and we go our separate ways. As soon as I arrived at home in Lexington, KY I didn't even make it in the house before I started projectile vomiting. After a few hours of this I gave her a call.. she was also hanging her head in a trash can while on the toilet (need I say more?!)
I firmly believe that this place does not handle their ground beef the way that they should be or I would have been the only one to get sick. This was an obvious case of cross contamination. The customer base is misinformed on how they cook their burgers or there is a lack of communication between kitchen/ front of house. Of course every place is different however generally speaking there should not be that much variation. I was never offered a refund, and have been trying to get a human to answer the phone since Friday evening (I realize that you are closed on Sun/Mon). I expect that someone will call me upon arrival Tuesday to work out this problem.
My friend and her boyfriend (a well known realtor in town) will never be visiting Grind again nor will I (or anyone I can tell not to). I realize mistakes happen but not a hardly cooked/severely under...
Read moreAMAZING!!!!! I've been talking about this place since we went Saturday! Today is TUESDAY🤣 1st off, "TicTok made me do it!" I saw a post from the restaurant about their Salmon burger. We were driving back from Nashvile and I decided to take my wife, along with our baby girl to eat. Arriving, we were asked if we had a reservation. We did not. We were informed there was a 35 minute wait and another 35 once seated to get food. Understood. We walked Nulu for 35 minutes. We returned to realize that my phone didn't accept the text. Thank goodness she kept our place in line. We were sat with AALIYAH! A young, LOUD, vibrant, beautiful waitress who took EXCELLENT care of us. We ordered our food and was informed that the salmon burger sold out about 35 minutes before we were sat. 😔 While waiting I had the pleasure of trying the prickly pear margarita. DELICIOUS! Their feature drink was a Pineapple Jalepeno something. OH MY GOODNESS!!! I heard our waitress talking to the table behind us and I threw my empty glass up, letting them know it was DELICIOUS. The lady ended up drinking 2! I then had the adult Cherry Cola. It was good, but the Pineapple Jalepeno.... took the cake on ALL the drinks. After about 45 minutes. The manager walked through and probably noticed the starvation on my daughter's face. 🤣🤣🤣 I spoke with her about how good the drinks were and my disappointment that the salmon burger was SOLD OUT. By the time we received our food.... about 15 more minutes later.... we had a salmon burger with brussels, bacon cheeseburger and fries, and a burger with pimento cheese and onions and fries. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I even ordered a 2nd order of brussels. You have to to get the smoky ketchup and the house ranch is the bese sauces I have ever had. I can't wait to go back!!!! I have to try the Grind Ice Tea. Do not just read this post. Make a reservation. You might just...
Read moreIf there was a possibility to leave less than a one star review, I would. My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant on Sunday around 1:00 pm- both our first time at Grind. Upon arrival, we were greeted and ordered fairly quickly. After 45 minutes of waiting in an almost-dead restaurant, my boyfriend finally received his order. The food runner cheerfully asked him if we needed an extra plate to share the one sandwich and handful of French fries. The server was told “no” and that I too had placed an order. The server stated that he must’ve forgot my burger and it would take just a minute. 15-20 minutes later, I received my burger from a tall, skinny dark haired man that we think is the general manager. When my boyfriend, who’s food was now cold, told him that this was unacceptable and he wanted a refund for the terrible service, the man offered us dessert first but then proceeded to tell us, “okay, fine” and removed our food from the table in front of us. My boyfriend is a professional chef and we eat out often- sometimes our experiences are good, sometimes not. However, to this day, we have never visited a restaurant with such poor service and lack of respect for their customers. We love local restaurants and continue to be cheerleaders for local business; however, unless the owner decides to step in and fix their issues, this business will, rightfully, never survive. I am beyond disappointed with Grind and am ashamed of the reputation that this restaurant gives...
