I’m a big fan of wholesale clubs. We have a membership to Costco and Sam’s Club. I’ve been to BJ’s in Delaware and in Orlando because my aunts have memberships in these locations. We just got our first location here in Louisville. I actually really appreciated that for healthcare workers, first responders, veterans, teachers, government employees, and college students BJ’s has special membership prices. I was able to get a membership for $25. This was for a year. It also came with a $10 reward because of the new store opening. We finally got to go today for the first time. It was really nice. We went to the gas station first and the gas station is marked to enter one way. The pumps have long hoses so it doesn’t matter what side you pull up to. The parking lot was easy to navigate and not chaotic. BJ’s opens into a very bright and airy space. The front of the store has customer service, quick snacks, and an eyeglass store. When you enter, you are in the technology section and you get to see all the TVs and devices. There’s a lot of office supplies. Just like the other big box stores you have a variety of home items, cleaning items, food, and over-the-counter supplements available. Compared to the other big box stores there were a lot of brands and products here that I’ve never seen before. I was really impressed with the options when it came to tortillas. There was also a great spread for bakery items. I was very impressed with the cheese area. There was international cheese. There were appetizers and snack cheese. The vegetable prices were great as well. I picked up sugar snap peas, which were delicious with fresh hummus. they had a nice variety of spices and name brands when it came to baking products. I was very excited about the Funfetti baking mix. When it came to soap and toothpaste, there were options available here that I have never seen anywhere else. The app was very helpful during the shopping trip because they have coupons that you can add to your card. Ended up saving over $40 in the coupons. The self check out is very sensitive so be mindful if you use it. The process was easy. After we went to the liquor store and met Sherri. She was a great resource. I really appreciated this wholesaler and the ambiance of the store. It was a great experience and it’ll be part of...
Read moreWord of caution if you're considering getting a BJ's warehouse membership. They lie and don't follow through with their promotions on items you purchase that are supposed to give you a gasoline discount. On 2 separate occasions I purchased multiple items that were labeled to give you 10¢ off of each gallon of gas that you buy. I never received any discount on 2 separate visits to their gas station. After the 1st visit of not getting the discount my wife called them to see why they didn't apply the discount and was told it takes at least a half hour for the discount to be available and that each purchase expires after 30 days. So when I went back 2 weeks later and purchased gas and I expected the discount and again no discount. So I had Raquel call them to see why and they took down her information and said the manager would look into it and call her back. That's been 3 days now and she's heard nothing from them. So as far as I'm concerned if they can't honor what they promise then I won't be coming back. Yes I know I'm getting to be a Grumpy Old Man but I'm getting tired of companies just ignoring customers and treating them like crap. So I'm going to stick with Sam's Club and Kroger for my discounts on gas. So I've cut my card up and will stick with Sam's Club from now on. Update on my problems with BJ'S club. I asked for a refund on my membership back on March 5th and it is now April 15th and still no refund. So if you continue to shop at BJ'S club at some point they are likely to screw you over and then tell you what you want to hear but still not save your issues. They just want you to shut up...
Read moreChecked out the Louisville BJs on the Grand Opening today! It was like Black Friday...too many people and too crowded! I had a little trouble getting around. I really didn't get to peruse the aisles but I noticed a few things I really liked. #1 employees were everywhere and very helpful (probably due opening day but we'll see). #2 Convenient location. This store is closer than the other wholesale stores to me. #3. Prices. I found the prices comparable to the others as well. Someone posted incorrectly that 2 dozen free range brown eggs(Nellie's by Wellsley Farms) were 50% more than Sam's (2 dozen white FR for $8.24!) but checking BJ's were $7.99 which is much better and Sam's on Blankenbaker rarely has any. 4 steamable bags of frozen broccoli were just $6.69 (just 1 cent more than Sam's. #4 BJ's has a great app for self checkout called ExpressPay that rivals Sam's Scan and Go. Scans are really easy but watch that it might duplicate your items. I left and found had 3 items with extra scans. I tried to fix in a chat with customer service but told I had to deal with local store - that's my only bad thing. Costco needs to get with the time and get an app. That is a big reason why I won't shop at Costco. Anyway, I was only there 25 minutes today but will return when there are less people. Groupon had $15 membership and I think I'll get my...
