We had a wonderful breakfast at Bob's. The breakfast plates we ordered were amazing and their prices were slightly below what fresh cooked breakfasts run these days. We ordered the "I Can't Decide" plate and chicken fried steak. Not normally one to rave about eggs but their scrambled eggs were superb and had a brighter yellow color than we're used to seeing, which reminded us of small production farm-fresh eggs. The ham that we ordered with the "I Can't Decide" was juicy and meaty and reminded us of an oven baked Christmas or Thanksgiving ham. Wish we had pineapple jelly for the ham, but it was delicious on its own. Pancakes were also very good, but just note that the regular size pancakes here tend to be the fluffy and thick type so don't go too crazy when adding butter. The Chicken Fried Steak was the highlight for me. It is a thicker cut of meat in a slightly crisp batter, drenched in a tasty gravy that has a subtle cajun+Mexican flavor. Regarding service, our waitress and the host were both very attentive and friendly, and they checked our coffee cups often. Lastly, parking on busier days can be hard to find as this Main Street area is well-known for great food and vibes so be prepared to walk a bit...
Read moreWe walked downtown to have a cup of coffee and a visit. The coffee shop (next door to Bob's) was booming with business and didn't have an available table. Bob's Diner was practically empty, so we sat at one of their tables. The manager all but fell over himself running outside to tell us we could not sit at "HIS" table that was on the street (public property). As he had no customers, he clearly had time to kick us out of "HIS" table. Because of his rude and ungracious behavior I will not eat at this restaurant. When I dine out, I want to feel welcomed, he made no effort to make us feel like anything other than unwanted in the rudest of ways. ~Since "Bob" has replied below, let me be more specific. The person I was with was elderly, we did end up sitting at one of the only two tables available at the restaurant that we ordered from, and the very kind people next to us shared their shade. We sat for an hour, and at NO TIME, were more than TWO tables occupied at Bob's, and if they would have been busy, he wouldn't have had the time to send such an inaccurate detailed reply. I stand by my 1 star, and hope that others, will think twice before eating at a place that would be so...
Read moreMy brother lives right on the edge of downtown Louisville & is within walking distance of everything. He rarely dines in and likes to walk to his favorite spots to eat every day. The crazy thing is that the quality of the food in Louisville is somehow far above that of other small towns. I realize that all the places I've eaten there have been well vetted by my brother and his family but I'm not used to having such a great concentration of fantastic places to eat. this was my first trip to Bob's with him and it didn't disappoint. My brother is a burger and fries guy and I'm a Reuben & rings person. I can't speak to the burger but my Reuben was top notch. I loved the marble rye and the onion rings where perfect. I also ordered a short stack of pancakes since we were there before noon and those were also great. Our server was excellent and knew my brother's order without him even needing to give it to her. if you're int eh neighborhood, this is small...
