I wanted a custom-made cowboy hat, so I started surfing the internet. Luckily, I landed on Wild Hats pretty quickly, so I gave them a call. I was immediately struck by the quality of the customer service. Now, I didn't know anything about a custom-made cowboy hat beyond the fact that I wanted one. I assumed that it wasn't going to be inexpensive, but I'm not sure I was prepared for the $800 price tag either. Chad, the owner, talked me through the material of the beaver/rabbit blend hat and the process of making the hat with absolutely no pressure. In fact, I inquired about the 100% beaver hat, and he discouraged me from spending the extra money for that hat as it was beyond what I needed. I've been in business for many years, and I can quickly discern when someone is simply trying to foist a product on me to make a buck and when they aren't. Believe me, this young man was all about the quality of the hat and what was right for me. It was like talking to family (or better).
The conversation with Wild Hats isn't just about buying a hat, it's about investing in headwear that is a work of art. It's a conversation about what is best for me and what I like: shape, style, color, etc.
Please do not think that you are going to order your hat and it will be on your doorstep in a matter of days! It takes WEEKS. You're not ordering a hat off the shelf. You're ordering a one-of-a-kind, custom-made-for-you hat, and that takes time. I ordered a Dwight Yoakam-style hat in Silverbelly and believe me, when it arrived, I could not have been happier. It was perfect and everything these folks said it would be. The style and quality is superb and talk about durable; I wear mine in the rain and sleet and snow and it looks the same all the time....pristine.
I am happy to say that I was so impressed with the first one, that I ordered a second hat in black....which is also a beautiful work of art.
One final note...if you want a cowboy hat...get one. It's your life. I live in Maine and, needless to say, there aren't many cowboy-hat-wearing hat dudes in this state, but I have to tell you...I have received more compliments on my hat than I have ever received on ANYTHING that I have ever worn. Believe me, you can't go wrong with Wild Hats and I know you'll be as...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI received my hat about a week ago and wanted to wait till I had some wear time with it. First Iāll start with the process to get it from phone call 1 to receiving took a few months but the wait was worth it talked to an actual person and still have their member if a question came up a quick text and and answer was received from a human, in todayās world to me that is rare and something Iām thankful. The whole process I never was out of the loop I was informed the whole way. These dudes do an amazing job customer service wise. On to the hat I could not be happier, I have a quite a few hats my favorite being an Akubra due to the protect and fit. I like my hat a touch loose so I can add a sizing strip or take away this is the only hat I own that fits perfect to me besides my Akubra. The look is perfect a western fedora with minimal distressing so I can really wear it anytime working or on a nice night out. Durability wise itās taken a beating, as much as I love hats being bald they are also a tool and this one is no different, day 4 of wearing and it was soaked in a rain storm and a couple hours later youād never know. I will be ordering another hat soon nothing beats the customer service and ability to FaceTime while your hat is shaped. Yes it takes awhile yes itās costs a decent chunk of money but itās one of a kind to what I wanted and will last a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a one-of-a-kind experience at Wild Hats and walked out with a one-of-a-kind hat to match.
I got to be in the shop, in the process, shaping this piece alongside my hat maker, Ulysses the āHat Alchemistā (because āartistā doesnāt even begin to cover it).
After following them on social for a while, being there in person was next level. The sights, the smell of steam and felt, the storytelling behind every detail, it was personal, powerful, unforgettable.
I named my hat āStill Standing.ā The coffin-top crown and tombstone curve are a defiant reminder: after everything Iāve been through, Iām still here.
The black snake band? Thatās resilience. You donāt survive the strike without learning to shed what no longer serves you. The barbed wire? A nod to the pain, the scars and the strength it took to heal around them.
And that pencil curl on the brim? Straight from Dusty Hillās playbook. Music runs deep for me, and that curl brings the rock ānā soul every time I put it on.
Best part? Talking shop with the owner, Chandler, a true original. Not every day you meet a business mind that sharp wrapped in that much raw authenticity.
Thank you to the entire Wild Hats crew. You donāt just make hats, you help mark moments in a...
