0 Stars. My daughter and I had stopped dining here due to the incredibly high prices of their fountain drinks. Also, each meal always varied in price even though the same thing was ordered the same way every time. There was no consistency in pricing when changing sauces or adding sour cream, cheese, etc.
For the first time in over a year, I agreed to carry out as we could provide our own beverages.
I figured the cost of the carry out based on the online menu prices as I am on a fixed income and am on to their pricing tricks. I ordered a combination and asked if the chips and salsa were included. My order had a sauce change, cheese on the inside of a burrito instead outside which is how it is normally prepared. When I asked for the total it was higher than the menu so I asked where the extra charge was coming from. Lo and behold we were being charged for the "included" chips and salsa. I dug out another pricing trick in the carry out. El Nopal will get you coming and going.
We picked up the order and after arriving home saw that the entire order was screwed up. It was not edible to me and my daughter only wanted the rice. I called back in and spoke to the young man who had taken the order from us. His name is Andreas / Andrew and he is the son of the manager. I am sure his services exceed his employer's expectations. I told him what was wrong with the order and had him take my name and number and put it with the corrected order. He agreed to replace the entire order when we returned.
Which brings me to today, June 24, 2019. I decided to go to El Nopal to pickup my already paid for corrected carry out meal. I entered the restaurant and asked for Andreas /Andrew and he was not working. I explained to the young lady how Andreas had left a note with my corrected order and my name and contact info. There was no note. I was not surprised. The young lady rolled her eyes and said, "It doesn't matter.", implying that this poor level of service was not uncommon. I told her what the original order was and told her how it had gotten screwed up. When the order came out, it was not the entire order and it was not fully corrected. When I brought this to the young man's attention who brought the order out he relayed to me that he had contacted Andreas at home and he had said that he had not promised full replacement and if I wanted the white sauce on my combo like I had originally ordered (and received) that I would have to pay $5.50 to get it like I ordered it originally. Even my 14 yo daughter was aghast. We didn't even get a full side!
Extortion for a corrected order that your company representative had lied to me about from what is included in the price to "I'll put a note with the corrections and your info at the register." Is dishonest, illegal and clearly shows that El Nopal would rob you blind if you continue to patronize them. They're sneaking it out slowly now.
We are finished with all El Nopal 's and I have friends on fixed incomes that will follow suit. Several of them had already quit El Nopal for the same theft that I had observed.
The public be warned.
It's the...
Read moreLet me start by saying my wife and I have been customers of the El Nopal in Seymour, Indiana since we moved here in September of 2017. We typically dine in the restaurant 2-3 times per month. Tonight, we went in to the restaurant to order take-out (additional 1.99 per order) Something we've done several times in the recent past. We ordered a taco salad (9.00), a #1 combination with cheese enchiladas rather than beef which would make them less expensive to make (12.00), and a lunch version of the carne asada (13.00 + 3.00 because it was dinner, not lunch). As we chose to wait in the restaurant as they prepared the food we also ordered 2 drinks (3.50 x 2) and asked for chips and salsa as we waited. If you add that all up, it comes to $50.00. Add the Indiana tax of $4.00 and the total should have been $54..00 So imagine my surprise when we were told $62.05. I asked how they got to that amount and the server said, "You had chips, the chips aren't included when you don't eat here." Ok, nobody told us that, and there's no chips charge listed on the menu. I'm sorry, the chips are included and endless in the restaurant when you dine in, what's the difference if I done in or take out?. We ate half a bowl of their chips. So either they charged $8.05 for chips, or we were ripped off. But it's the server's attitude that really offended us. I said to the server, "We may have to find another Mexican restaurant," to which he responded, "I don't care what you do, now pay me." We paid him. I believe in choosing your battles. Instead of arguing, I'm voting with my feet. We won't EVER be back to an El Nopal. To all the potential customers, it's now clear to me that El Nopal's interest is in the money in your wallet, not providing an enjoyable experience. ...
