I hadn't been to Steak n Shake in years, but right after a church service last night, 7 of us decided to head over to the Outer Loop location for some food and shakes. The waitress who "greeted" (in more or less words) us slowly sat us down with no personality, no smile, nothing other than a look of disgust like she didn't want to be there.
When she came to take our order (after we waited there at our table for at least 5 minutes), she sat down and started complaining about her ailments. She took our orders, and several had ordered shakes. When she came to bring us our drinks (literally 10 minutes later), someone's drink never made it to our table. A few of the people who had ordered shakes had seen a strawberry cheescake shake advertised on our table, and asked if it was too late to put in for that instead of their original shake orders. She responded, "The strawberries are frozen, so we can't make it." However, my son had a small strawberry shake and managed to get his.
Another person had asked to order a sweet tea, and the waitress responded by saying, "The tea is off today." One of our group looked at another table and saw they had tea, so he asked them if the tea was "off", and they said no it tasted fine. So, that makes twice our waitress lied to us.
Then, when we went to pay up front, we were standing there for 10+ minutes and no one came. We asked the cook if he could get someone nicely, but he was swamped at the grill. Finally, after he was finished cooking an order, he took his gloves off, came to the register, and checked us out. Someone had asked for the manager, but he said that the manager was currently working drive thru.
I get that they may have been short staffed, but there is absolutely NO excuse for our waitress' behavior and lying. I will NEVER come back to this Steak n Shake again between her and the tons of waiting we had to do. It's a shame too, b/c our church group used to frequent this Steak n Shake several years ago, and gave them a lot of business. Looks like it's Waffle House and White Castle for us from now on. P.S. I will say that the grill cook, Justin, was amazing. He was stressed beyond measure with the orders coming in, but yet he still managed to put a smile on his face, be professional and friendly, and helped us so that we could pay and get out of there. Thank you Justin! The food was also hot,...
Read moreRewriting this during the quarantine for what that is worth, but the sign does say 24 hours still for takeout and drive through. However no one was in the window when I arrived. Upon further inspection there were no employees at all in the building, or anyone. It was vacant. Now this could be contributed to the quarantine or something maybe, but if so the sign needs to be changed. However this isn't the first time this has happened, as even before quarantine on several occasions I arrived only to find the store prematurely closed due to lack of staff or have the entire staff of just walked out. The employees here either have terrible work ethic, or the management and work environment is so terrible that no one wants to work here or they selectively forget that their sign says open twenty four hours sometimes. This location has always had it problems as far back as I can remember, not only with the late night staffing (which is unfortunate as I like to eat at night a lot of the time, but I guess IHOP exist for a reason), but also with time. There have been times where I've waited nearly 3 hours for food (given I had anything else to do, I would of just walked out.) The odds that your milkshake and food arrive in the same time frame are near 0, so don't expect to enjoy them together. I had originally given this place a 2 star, but a year later I am changing that to a 1 star, and frankly it would be a 0 star if such an option exist. I can't say I've ever been blown away by exceptional staff, or other factors. Now In fairness to the resteraunt, as I understand the day time crew and service is a lot better, but make sure you call before wasting your time driving up here late night because there's a very good chance that theres...
Read moreI recently posted my review, but today I wanted edit it after looking at my bank statement. We came through the drive thru and ordered our meals. When we got to the window to give the info for my free shake they tried to get the barcode but I guess they couldn't. They never told us they couldn't or didn't know how only that they "fixed it". My order came to $8.46 but they charged me over $11. They had already ran the card before they even alerted me of the price difference. When I asked her why was I quoted one price she said they charged me for the shake and they fixed the price to give me my free shake, but they credited the money and it would reflect later.
Yesterday I looked at my card and saw a pending transaction. Today I looked at my invoice and it shows that they lied. Not only did they charge me for my free shake, but they also gave me the shake in a filthy cup. The inside of the cup was disgusting. My order was wrong. I asked for my burger fully dressed with extra mayo and pickle. The burger I got was with no sauce the only vegetables on my sandwhich was pickles and a ton of onions. I will not be going back and I will make sure I tell all of my friends and family about this experience. I'm not calling in to complain for them to refund my couple of dollars, but I think people should know about my experience before someone gets sick! The whole meals ended up in the trash. After looking in that cup there was no possible way I was taking a chance eating that food. I didn't bring the food back because we live all the way across town and it was raining. This was an $11 learning experience. Beware of this filthy place if they serve drinks in dirty cups there's no telling what else...
