Stevens and Stevens is a big city kind of urban deli hidden away in the rear of another restaurant (Ditto's) on Bardstown Road. The deli is only open for lunch (10:00 to 3:00) Monday through Saturday. If you dash in just before closing time you may find that they're starting to clean up and put things away.
The menu offers a surprising selection of sandwiches and sides, soups, desserts and deli fare. The food quality is good and service is fast paced. No table service, stand in line, tell them what you want and if it's not ready when you get to the cashier they'll bring it to you.
The entrance is on an alley and not easy to find. Look for Ditto's on Bardstown Road. The entrance to Stevens and Stevens is on the alley next to Ditto's.
The dining room is small and crowded, the building is old. A few booths, some tables and a lunch counter. When we were there on a Friday about 1:00pm we were lucky to find a table for two. People coming and going frequently bumped and jostled me as they squeezed past our table. Everyone appeared to be in a hurry. Noisy big city urban atmosphere. This doesn't appear to be a place to go for a leisurely meal, read the newspaper or use your laptop. I wouldn't suggest bringing a group here.
Parking is wherever you can find a place to park. Some spaces are reserved for this deli and it's companion, Ditto's, but not enough.
Carry-out appears to be a big part of their business. They offer catering too.
Cash, credit cards and debit cards are accepted.
Does not appear to be wheelchair accessible. Stairs at the entrance, very crowded and not enough space between tables. Restroom is large enough however.

Read moreFirst off the beef vegetable soup was good ! But while ordering my sandwich the gentleman working was making a few others at same time. He didn’t write down what I was asking for just repeated out loud . I had a simple request Turkey , Swiss lettuce tomato , mayo , and 2 slices of bacon . The guy asked me if I wanted two pieces of bacon and told me the price for 1. I said yes . Than he asked me if I wanted them hot or cold . How would I know this if he didn’t ask me ? I asked for hot . They served my sandwich without any bacon . When I went up to ask , they told me sorry, will take this one and throw away and make a new one . Than I overheard the same guy who took my order say I didn’t ask for bacon and that they weren’t making a new one . They bring out my same sandwich . U take my sandwich , carry it to the back saying your remaking it correctly than bring it back . They still only put 1 piece of bacon on it . Even more frustrating is the cash register gentleman says , I didn’t charge you for the bacon but I was told you didn’t ask for it . Why argue with me and embarrass a customer when I clearly did order , and maybe just maybe your worker forgot my add on since he didn’t write down and was busy making other sandwiches while taking my order . I got a little frustrated and again said to this cash register guy i definitively ordered the bacon. I guess he decided to back off at this point as he said , yeah the worker making sandwiches has made mistakes all day ! I’m leaving this review as this was poor customer service ! Long term customer , and left on...
Read moreWant a special treat? Then you've got to give this place a try. They're the hidden gem amongst the menagerie of restaurants up and down Bardstown road. This little delicatessen has a selection you rarely find, start with their soups, you can't go wrong I ordered the choose two, and de ided on half a sandwich and soup. To start, I ordered the magic mushroom soup, a written in, special of the day and one of many on the menu; it was piping hot, full of flavor, loaded with mushrooms and out of this world. And did I mention the portion? You get a generous bowl full. I was full from just from the soup, but I was so anticipating my sandwich, the Spielberg. They offer many different combinations not found elsewhere, and I encourage you to look up the menu. My delima was Corn beef or Pastrami! So I asked which was best today and was guided towards the Spielberg. A real treat in itself; a blend of Pastrami, roasted turkey, Russian slaw, Swiss cheese on rye with honeycup mustard. All this I washed down with a Dr. Browns black cherry soda. What a meal. Oh yes, if you think you have room for dessert, then they have something sweet for you. I got an oatmeal cookie. Give them a try; you can't go wrong. If you go at an off time, it can make parking easier,...
