Do you like good pizza? Are you tired of trying place after place, only to be let down by mediocre (or worse) food? Is your wallet bulging with excess cash, so it's hard to fit in your pocket?
Well then, let me recommend Wicks Pizza at the corner of Highland and Baxter Avenues!
Now, the first time I tried Wick's Pizza was back in the 1990's, and it was burned. So, Wick's became known to me as 'the place you go for burned pizza', and I didn't go back for about 25 years. That's just the way I am. Recently, however, I decided to give them another try, and I'm glad I did.
I ordered the garlic bread with marinara for an appetizer, and a ten inch pie that was half veggie, and half spinach alfredo with chicken. Now I wanna tell you folks, this is some good, good pie. The crust was traditional thickness, soft and tasty. Not burned! The sauce was flavorful and above average. The marinara with the garlic bread was also chunky, almost like salsa, and was the best marinara I've ever had. They don't scrimp on toppings at Wicks. The veggies were piled up under the cheese on the veggie half, and there was enough spinach and chicken on the alfredo half. Topping it all off was a thick blanket of buttery-tasting cheese with just the right taste and texture. It was also not too hot to eat, but also far from cold. In other words: Just right.
This sumptuous repast, with some iced tea, set me back about thirty dollars. That was going to cost them one star on this review. I thought: If they put on Morrells and I started saying "Oh my God!" uncontrollably every time I took a bite, then yeah, I'd give 'em five stars for thirty bucks (twenty bucks for the ten inch pie). However, when I consider that the service and atmosphere were also excellent, I think they've earned their five stars.
TL;DR: Wicks Pizza has some good, good pie. Some of the best in Louisville, in fact. At twenty bucks for a small one, they'll also help you with that fat wallet problem. However, you often do get what you pay for, and quality don't come cheap. A great place to go every once-in-a-while when you can splurge and want to treat yourself or a...
Read moreOn 03/25/2019 I had placed an order for my company with the Wicks on Baxter Ave for the BOGO pastas. One of the pastas were incorrect. As I called back to advised my order was incorrect I spent 30 minutes on the phone with the manager Kim telling me she couldn't compensate me for the pasta because she doesn't have the " power " to override the order. She than after 30 minutes told me she could write a note in the system stating the pasta would be free upon next order. I called back 06/03/2019 to make another company order and spoke with Alex (who wouldn't give me her name I got it from the driver) she stated Kim has placed a note in the system stating the pasta would be 50% off. The pastas are already BOGO so that would just mean that I am purchasing another pasta instead of being compensated for my order that was incorrect. Alex stated "she understood what I was saying but she can only go by what that note has". I advised Alex I will call back when Kim is in and I wanted to continue to place the other orders for the company. She then put a server on the phone who proceeds to take my order. After she took my order I informed her the payment method was card she said " I have to put you on hold to get a supervisor to change the payment method". She got back on the line and advised me the total for the 4 BOGO pastas was $46 I said that I incorrect just cancel the order, she then placed me on hold again and I disconnected the call. She called my work phone several times and left a message stating to call back so we can complete the order. The order then arrives at my place of business 1 hour later and the driver informed she put the order as cash. I never completed the order and I advised her I wanted to cancel this order but she still sent the order without my consent and expected me to pay for it. This place is so unprofessional its ridiculous. Sad that your going to miss out on so much money with my company we spend about $200 minimum a month and Wicks will never get another...
Read moreWick's Pizza is a staple in my culinary routine, a place that, while maintaining an average pub-like ambiance, serves up a delightful array of pizzas, sandwiches, and calzones that are anything but ordinary.
The restaurant itself is unassuming, with a casual, laid-back atmosphere that is perfect for a relaxed meal with friends or family. The decor is simple, yet comfortable, and the staff are friendly and accommodating, always ready to make your dining experience enjoyable.
But where Wick's truly shines is in its food. The pizza is a standout, with a perfectly cooked crust that strikes a balance between crispy and chewy. The toppings are generous and fresh, and the variety of options ensures that there's a pizza to suit every palate. Whether you're a fan of the classics or prefer to experiment with unique combinations, Wick's has you covered.
The sandwiches and calzones are equally impressive. The sandwiches are hearty and filling, with a variety of options that range from traditional to innovative. The calzones, on the other hand, are a must-try. Stuffed with a delicious blend of cheese and fillings, they are a comforting and satisfying choice.
Despite its average pub appearance, Wick's Pizza has managed to carve out a niche for itself with its delicious offerings. It's a place where the food takes center stage, and it's clear that a lot of thought and care goes into each dish.
While it may not be the fanciest place in town, Wick's Pizza is a testament to the fact that sometimes, the best meals come from the most unexpected places. It's a regular spot in my food diet, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a satisfying meal in a...
