Most of you who know me, I had a stomach bypass surgery. My stomach is now the size of an egg. For the last year and a half I’ve been ordering child plates off of menus when dinning out. I have a medical card defining this, and if I’m informed I can’t order off of the children’s menu, I show the medical card and there are no questions asked. Mind you, in a year in a half, I had to use the card once and all was good during that transaction.
UNTIL TODAY: Blocky’s, I did not see the kids menu, I contemplated on ordering Lasagne. I asked the server at the counter if they have a kids menu, he said yes, but he would go in the back and ask the owner if I can order off of it.
Owner comes out, proceeds to tell me I can’t order off the kids menu. I kindly explain to him my surgery and my stomach is the size of an egg, and I have a medical card that enables me to order from the children’s menu.
Here is what I got in the reasons why I could not order off of the menu:
I need a letter from my doctor saying so, or, a phone number I can call to request the letter.
My reply was one of, I’ll give you the number right now. Then I asked, how does trying to get a letter today help me in wanting to eat here right now. I get an answer of “I don’t know.” Of course I say, this is why I have the card.
Then I get: If the “Health Inspector” finds out I sold a child’s plate to an adult I get written up. * fact check below*
Of course my reply, that makes no sense. Why would a “health inspector” fine you for serving a child’s plate to an adult. No clear answer to that question.
I then said, I’m ordering a child’s cheese ravioli to- go please for my grandson.
Answer I get: Nope, I can only sell kids menus items for dine in. I said, I’ll take it for dine in. His reply is, “where’s the kid”. Not here.
He then proceeds to tell me, he’s taking the children’s menu off of the menu for today so no one at this time can order off the children’s menu.
This is when kindly stated, that is fffin stupid and I walked out.
Look I get it. People try to scam the system all of the time. If he had everyone order off the child’s menu that could be problematic for his business.
The reality is, would the entire world know that he sold a child’s menu dish to me? Doubt it. So the thought of me starting a trend is next to none. Right?!!! The other aspect of this is, I go to this place often. I’ve ordered many dishes dine in and take out. I’ve held large family celebration parties feeding family and friends their pizzas. My mother is in a long term extended stay, I brought her a spaghetti and meatball plate about 2 weeks ago. My brother in law ordered her a cheese ravioli dish and took it to her three days ago. My point is, we eat there a lot.
Any time someone on Facebook states, “where is the best Italian pizza place in Loveland” I’ve been quick to reply and say go to Blocky’s. They even have more than pizza…
Well, sad to say, I want support this business anymore. Nor will I be recommending them anymore.
At the end of the day, it’s not about the food and the quality thereof, it’s about how the owner handled this.
Totally unprofessional, lying about the “Health Inspector” will write him up for selling a kids dish to an adult. Lying about you can’t order kids menu items to-go (because I have done this several times in the past). Lying about you can only eat child’s plates as a dine in.
Anyone with no integrity, and when lying comes so easy, why would I want to support them. My rant about ordering for my grandson was a “cat and mouse game” at this point just to see what type of answer I would get and of course l get more lies.
**FACT CHECK: I’ve called the Colorado Health Department division, defined the immediate health inspector claim, the clerk stated I have never heard of this before in my time working here however, I will inform my colleagues who handle Restaurants and have them give you a call back to validate or debunk the owners...
Read moreI feel like a counter point should be made to some of the negative reviews being made about Blocky's in the last few weeks. More specifically the one posted just before this one (and subsequent reviews similarly ill formed).
You have ordered from this place dozens of times and LOVED the food, and then ONE TIME you get a less than expected experience, you decide to leave a one star review? That seems pretty bogus. If you call the restaurant in the event of a mistake, they ALWAYS are more than happy to correct it. Even if it is a GrubHub mistake. Writing a bad review seems childish when a phone call is so much easier and such a faster way of making things right.
You order in the middle of the dinner rush (usually between around 5 to around 8 at most places), sometimes you get food that is maybe a little more crispy than expected. But as made VERY CLEAR by my interactions with the staff previously (owner or otherwise) and even MORE SO by the owner's responses to EVERYONE who leaves a review about his restaurant, they clearly care about what they are doing. (I also find it hard to believe that an owner with that much heart would actively employ anyone who doesn't care about the food like he does.)
I was also in on the evening of 7/29/2020. The crew seemed a bit more busy than expected on a Monday night, but no one had a negative attitude, nor do I think they didn't want to be there even. Having worked in the food industry in the past I realize that when things get busy, it is time to get serious. And I have always appreciated that about the Blocky's crew. They know when it is time to be serious, but they still greet everyone when they walk through the door and make you feel like you are part of the family. Last night was no exception!
I will say the new chicken on the pizza was un expected with my order, but by no means did it seem randomly placed. But a change to a menu item is hardly grounds for a negative review.
I have been in on nights when the owner is absent, and when he is there, and the level of service is not noticably different in either scenario.
Keep up the good work over there folks, we love your pizza (and that...
