I figured that I would grab a few things on my first visit to get a lay of the land, so to speak. I got a Cochinita Vampiros taco, shrimp taco, Al pastor, and nachos. I have to be honest, as someone who had spent 6 years of their life working in a Mexican based restaurant, this food blows it away. The Vampiros taco with the pork is absolutely next level. The pork was so tender and the flavor was out of this world. I profoundly regret only ordering one. The fried shrimp taco was just amazing. The crunch with the supporting flavors is enough to make you crave the next bite. The Al Pastor was so simple, but so packed with flavor that they were gone in no time. Lastly, the nachos are just profound. It’s not hard to make them, but when you take your time and make them with not only passion, but with the best ingredients you can get, they become something different.
I was lucky enough to try a few of their homemade sauces as well. You can pair different ones to different orders and they just add onto the flavor of the taco. They’re also different levels of spices too. The ones that I tried were very clearly ones that were hand made. Putting one of them next to a jar of sauce will make you throw away that sauce.
This restaurant is one that offers products that aren’t overly complicated, but the final result is one that will have you remembering it for days and weeks after. The thought, passion, heart, and ingredients put into the options on the menu are so much more gourmet and fantastic that many other places you would visit in the area.
My only regrets are twofold. I didn’t order enough, and I didn’t come by soon enough. Don’t make those...
Read morePrices are high. 3 tacos only for $12-15 with no sides is a little much. For fast casual, it's hard to swallow. Nonetheless, they are bland. I would have no issue paying these prices for bomb tacos. Got the al pastor, which were the best I got. Then birria and another soft beef taco. Though I wish the birria came with the consommé. I would have loved to taste the braise. The meat was mostly wet mush. The last 2 were just bland, I can't describe it. For a moment, I thought I had covid, but then ate something else to make sure I wasn't unfairly judging them. I like that they make their own salsa, but the spiciest one I was warned about wasn't even taco bell hot sauce spicey. It's like white people spicey. Corn tortillas are house made but thick for my taste. They have kombucha on tap which is good, but similar taste to bottled stuff. It's $4 for a small cup. Also got the Mexican bread, which I enjoyed. It's literally a melon pan if you like Japanese desserts. You order at a touch screen, which has the spanish words for the choices but no translation to what it is. Makes ordering longer and annoying to Google what things are since you have to choose what you want on the tacos in order to complete the choices. This is trexlertown so it's a pretty white bread area. Maybe I'll try them again at a later date to see if...
Read moreA great addition to the area! House made tortillas are the real deal (corn tortillas). Like everyone else has said: the birria is fantastic, don't pass it up. The guacamole is great, queso was pretty good and all the toppings seemed fresh. Definitely head inside to try a few of their salsas. When something says "really spicy" I am always disappointed - but they had a few here that were actually spicy and delish!
Only down parts were the nachos, esquites, and some of the meat. (Whichever was in the cochinita one). Nachos were baked into a big clump and you had to use a fork for it. Tasted fine though. The esquites I was thinking they would be like Mexican street corn but they were VERY vinegary/mayo heavy. And some of the meat (not birria) was a little tough. As a whole though, everything was still delish.
The beef burrito must have weighed 2lbs, and it was good. The empanada with house made crust is good too.
Best part?!? IT WAS A GREAT DEAL! Much more budget friendly than say Cali or Don's. Oh, and they have the...
