The staff is nice, the appetizer prices are decent and quality/portions generally meet expectations. Entrees seem a bit spendy for what you get but tasted fine. I expected a better import beer selection on draft but they do have a decent bottled selection. The patio is a nice place to enjoy a beer if the weather is pleasant but I think they are relying too heavily on it as the interior seating is a bit limited. Good local music was playing when we arrived. The lack of wait service on the patio is kinda a pain but not necessarily a deal breaker.
Those are the positives. Unfortunately they are marred by a serious negative, namely the singularly uncomfortable and dangerous outdoor furnishings. The wooden Adirondack chairs are fine but the remaining furnishings appear home made from angle iron, strap, and heavy pipe (like thick-wall oil field pipe, not fence post tubing). Nice looking but not something I want to experience again. Not only are they physically painful to sit or lean on, the cuts and welds haven't been properly dressed and vary from prickly and snagging to ragged and razor sharp. The chairs are also unnecessarily heavy, maybe fifteen or twenty pounds each. Should one of the tilt-prone tall chairs fall, the weight, sharp edges, and unforgiving materials make severe cuts or broken bones pretty much a guarantee. Finally, the fixed-position bar stools are also about six inches too far out, forcing you to lean uncomfortably or sit up straight with no type of support. All this resulting in spending the entire evening squirming in significant discomfort and attempting to keep my slacks from snagging on the chair.
All in all a decent place for a beer hangout marred by extremely uncomfortable and borderline dangerous patio furnishings. Do something about those and I'd probably end up a regular. For now, I'll make an occasional visit but will take a seat cushion and wear things I don't mind torn. Three stars, as is (and I'm being generous). I might stretch it to four if they do something about the...
Read moreWent on Sunday for Mother's Day. It was the last day of their opening weekend, so I am trying to be understanding.
The inside feels like a cleaned up Gardski's. You order from a counter and plenty of open seating up, down, and outside.
Speaking of outside. This is where the bar is, a cool patio concept with a bunch of different types of seating arrangements and is dog friendly. They are going to have to figure out shade though, because in the summer (which yesterday felt like) it was hot. The tables and chairs were warm/borderline hot to the touch. Pretty uncomfortable if you weren't in the shade.
The good: The location is solid. The burgers were good. I got the FOLC burger, it's very good. A good bun
The bad: Management? I don't know who to blame for the next part of this. Took 45 minutes to get 2 burgers. For being bierHaus, they were out of a bunch of drafts, so they were pouring coors light and budlight. I was expecting to be able to get something more interesting. They do have Fireman4 on draft which is what I got.
When the food came, they informed us they were out of french fries. They were also out of about half of their menu including chicken strips, fish tacos, pork sliders, and a few other dishes. They cut off lunch service around 1:30pm, turned away many customers. Watched many folks complaining about the amount of time it took to get their food.
It seems like they had plenty of staff, just not organized. I feel like they are trying to be a bunch of different kinds of places all rolled up in one. I hope to chalk this up to opening weekend, but they have to get it figured out with graduation coming next weekend and then the death of summer coming.
Overall 3 stars. Would go again, but will wait until they figure out what...
Read moreI went with my family for graduation weekend activities. I'm truly embarrassed that I brought them here. It was fairly empty yet still had a customer yelling across the room (but I guess that's yo be expected). When we ordered, the cashier wasnt familiar with the menu and told my brother that his meal didn't come with fries, so he ordered them on the side and decided to get them loaded. My cousin ordered the exact same meal but had her fries, so unfortunately my brother paid extra for some nasty over cooked fries. He also ordered onion rings but they must've been cooked right after some pickles becuase they tasted sour and no one ate them. My boyfriend ordered the salad ans asked for additional grilled chicken (two portions) and unfortunately it was CANNED shredded chicken!! Same with the wraps and loaded fries -- all had canned shredded chicken... the wraps were unpalatable because of the saltiness, surprisingly my boyfriend still sucked it up and ate the salad because he was starving. Our pretzel was rock hard stale, and mushrooms looked burnt. My boyfriend went to the bar to order a drink and the first one had a fly in it, so the bartender remade it and that one also had a fly in it. Finally he just asked for a different drink. The bartender looked at the spray gun, and liquor bottle but couldn't find the source. We were lucky enough to find a large table upstairs that suited our family well. I did like that it looked inviting outside with the swings and such. And it was interesting to learn that the staff pick their own prickly pears for the margaritas... but thats about the extent of my satisfaction with this...
