amazing sullungtang and side dishes -
Food: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Ambiance: 4 stars Price: 4 stars Overall: 4.5 stars
This is my second time here, and all of my visits here were great. Last time we ordered two brisket sullungtang and a small dumpling, and this time we ordered the brisket sullungtang and a tongue sullungtang. The dumpling was somewhat ordinary, but the sullungtang here is superb. That's why my husband who dislikes driving so much is willing to drive all the way here.
The soup comes with either white noodle or crystal/ clear noodles. I like the crystal noodles better since it feels less heavy. For me, it's more like a side whereas the white noodles feel like the main dish, if that makes any sense lol.
I personally like the tongue sullungtang better since it's more chewy, so it really depends on your preference of the texture. When in doubt, you can always order the mixed ones too, which comes with briskets, tongue, tendon and cartilage.
Another thing about this place is that their side dishes are AMAZING! It's probably the best that I've had anywhere in the states.... We even bought a small kimchi back the first time we came. They are also generous on the scallions and I usually add a ton.
The ambiance is alright and they don't blast loud music in your ear. The spacing between the tables is great, and you have enough privacy to talk about whatever here. The service is also great since they refilled my side dishes without asking, and it was easy to get help here.
We love this place so much, and if you come before 11:30 am you usually don't need to wait. I personally think it's better than the popular sullungtang restaurants that we've tried in LA. Either way it's worth a try!
Update: 02/08/2025
We came back here again and it was insanely crowded! Nearly all two-person tables were taken at 11:30 am, so we sat at a 4 person table. When we left around noon, the restaurant was full with tons of people on the wait-list.
Hubby ordered the mixed sullungtang today and I got the #2 beef tongue sullungtang still. The portion is insane today, I didn't think there were that many meat last time. There were nearly 20 pieces of beef tongue in my soup today for some reason... The side dishes were still amazing as usual.
I love to put the kimchi or the radish kimchi in the soup for 1-2 seconds, let the soup absorb the kimchi sauce, then eat it. If you wait too long, the kimchi will become bland. This is only good because their kimchi is amazing, so is the kimchi sauce that makes the soup even better imo.
I hope they open a branch in Bellevue, so we don't have to drive that far every...
Read moreIt opens at 10, and at about noon the place is packed with a long wait-list. This was on a Saturday. The previous Sunday we tried to come here around noon and it was a 2-hour wait, coinciding with hungry churchgoers leaving church. My advice for you is to come here before 11 if you're pining for some delicious, slow cooked beef broth. At 11 you might even walk right into a table like we did.
The menu is very simple with 11 options that are variations of the same thing: bone broth + meats. We got the soup with beef briskets and the big meat plate. The meat plate comes with some soup but you need a full order to really enjoy the broth. We had leftovers but this seems about right for a couple.
The broth itself is not seasoned heavily, so the first step is to add salt and pepper to your desired taste. Then ladle in green onions which makes the broth so good. They give you a serious serving (a soup bowl sized) of green onions. Also comes with homemade kimchi (best we've had) and pickled radish. You can dip these into the broth to add flavor and spice as well.
The meats are tender and when paired with the soup create a perfect combination. The simplicity of the dish is incredibly flavorful. You can also just get 2 soups, each with its own meats or get a plate on the side like we did. The plate is a lot more expensive but we wanted to try everything.
$75 when all is said and done for 2 but it'd be half that if we didn't order the meat plate.
Will be...
Read moreI got there before 12:00 on Saturday, 95% Full house, majority Korean customers and with that alone made me feel like I got into the right place for some authentic Korean Sullungtang!!!😋😋 I ordered the mix meat Sullungtang, first thing the waitress brought over to me was a medium size jar of salt and freshly chopped green onion plus my bukwheat tea😍, secondly was fresh Napa cabbage kimchee and radish kimchee! Try it right away, not a big fan of the radish kimvhee, it was too sour! Main dish arrived--mix meat Sullungtang! Strong beef bone smell, think texture of the soup, beef tripe & beef brisket with glass noodle! Everything is on point! Taste wise, honestly I prefer Traditional beef Soup Sullungtang and their Ban Chan near Ranch 99 in Edmonds. I am not saying JangAn is not good, I will go again next time to try other things on the menu and update this review! Overall score I gave 4 for food and 4 for service! Their servers works well as a team, they got each other back! One will take customer to their table and second one will bring hot tea and getting ready to take order! When I asked for my check to one lady, she asked me for a moment, after couple seconds, another lady server came by with a credit card machineand asking me how's the food. That's...
