After trying a couple of restaurants that wouldn't allow strollers, someone in my party went into Mustang Lounge to see if they allowed strollers- we were told yes. Upon sitting down and getting high chairs, we were told that strollers had to go in an alley out back. That was fine, although it would be good to let folks know up front, especially if they ask about this specifically. Once that was taken care of, we ordered. I wanted to order a la carte style for my daughter. After an extremely confusing exchange with the waitress in which she told me I could not order these items together even though they are all on the menu as sides or add-ons to meals, she returned from the kitchen to let us know that they would accommodate our order. Although frustrated, I did appreciate that. Finally, someone in my party was given frozen chicken. The waitress blamed it on the new kitchen staff and had a new meal made- as well as offering a free soda. The whole experience just had odd notes to it and left us feeling dissatisfied and with a very expensive bill which already had a 20% tip included (group of 6 adults, 3 babies- never had an automatic tip for a group of that size). Will look for someplace else next time.
*edited to add: the food was underwhelming for our party. I thought the service we received was worthy of one star, and the owner's response below...
Read moreThis is a really fun joint to eat! Yeah, it's more expensive than McDonalds, and it takes longer too. Put your big boy pants on and enjoy the show. They are BUSY in the summer, so no, the waitress isn't going to stand there and listen to your life story and pretend to be your therapist for an hour. Richard will seat you where he can, as soon as he can. You can see the gears turning as he watches over tables and guests!
We had a bit of a wait to get seated, but hey, it's busy. The three of us got seated at a table for four, so plenty of room for us. We had the BBQ brisket burgers, which were really good! We are planning on eating there this summer when we visit the island again.
I recall reading somewhere long ago that perhaps Hemingway was on Mackinac Island, and that he ate there. I can't verify that at this point, but I could see him at the bar, that's for sure. Great atmosphere, just leave your big city Michelin star restaraunt attitude behind...
Read moreDon't be fooled, I wouldn't call this a "Lounge" in a million years, let alone a tavern. This place doesn't even try to be anything but a bar. The food is not great but way overpriced, with extremely low variety. The pretzels are the frozen ones you find fast-food places use but they were somehow not soft like usual. The wings were decent but we paid about 35 dollars for two people (not including the other food) and the sauce wasn't great and they were lukewarm. The atmosphere was hellish, gross and poorly laid out and with minimal decor. They sat people not ordering food in the same area as us ordering food, so it was astonishingly loud- louder than any bar I've ever been to- and this was in the daytime on a Sunday. Fully just a bunch of degenerates day drinking and screaming. It would've been fine but again, there wasn't any separation from them, and the food was way overpriced. The waitress was nice but the service also could've...
