Today on November 30th I went to the Post to have a relaxing afternoon with a cup of coffee as I normally do all over the State. I used valet because I thought it was cool. I entered the Post and I ordered coffee. I asked the waitress if she knew anything about the tours on the balcony of the State Capitol that I saw as I arrived. She replied no.
I told her I'll Google about the tours. I told her what I found and a few minutes later I asked if it would be ok if I went to the see the balcony tour because it was something I haven't done. She said certainly. I was offered food shortly before that so I told her as soon as I return I will order food!
When I returned Madison Police Department were in the entrance to the Post as the officers saw me approach they closed their notebook. The manager at the Post called the police to report what I imagine was theft of a cup of coffee. I wonder how he reasoned this if I asked permission and I left my car in their valet.
Someone had to lie somewhere to get the police to respond. Madison Police Department refused to inform of the purpose of their officers at that location. It was because of a lie but they decided to protect the liar for another opportunity to harass me with police at locations I arrive to. I never had intent to leave without paying. I even asked permission.
The manager did this to help the police department cause an altercation because I would be upset that I was lied on or about once again. I chose to tell! You guys should ask for the police report for today. Question the logic behind police at that location and the riddle behind why I keep seeing police at locations I go to?
Cool addition is that the museum across the street had a mention of the Post inside of it. Take a look...
Read moreWe stopped into The Post for breakfast on what had to be one of the busiest Saturdays downtown Madison could possibly have, the Farmers Market, a Badger game, and Ironman all happening at once. The square was packed, but inside The Post there were maybe four tables in the whole large restaurant. Honestly, after our experience, I wasn’t surprised.
The manager (or someone who looked like the manager) was friendly and polite, but our server (bald, wearing a Badger sweatshirt) was one of the rudest servers I’ve ever encountered. He skipped a greeting, let us sit for about 15 minutes before even coming over, and when we finally ordered drinks, his attitude made it seem like we were inconveniencing him. I asked if I could do a build-your-own omelet and he shrugged with, “I guess if we have the stuff.” When I asked about adding bacon, he said “sure” in the rudest tone. A bacon and cheese omelet is hardly a strange request, but the way he acted made me feel like we were asking him to do something far outside his job description.
The food itself was good, and the manager actually dropped it off, but our server never returned to check on us. No butter or jam for our toast, no water refills, no second round of drinks offered. After sitting for 10+ minutes post-meal without anyone coming by, we finally went up to the bar to ask for our check. The manager once again took care of us, while our server sat behind the bar doing nothing.
It’s a shame because The Post is such a cute spot with good food and a great location, but the service we received was truly awful. On a Saturday when downtown was overflowing with people, the restaurant was nearly empty, and after our experience, I...
Read moreAbsolutely wonderful little restaurant near the Capitol. I've rarely had such a delightful experience at a restaurant!
It was bright and charming atmosphere, with a variety of seating options- bar, tables, and lots of configurations. Nice art, comfortable chairs and tons of windows looking out at the Capitol and the neighborhood, along with fun music that wasn't too fussy, but was modern enough that my kids could sing along (even if I tried to get them to stop). We were there the day before Thanksgiving for lunch so it wasn't busy, but I can imagine it would be on different days because it's just such a lovely space.
They had a coffee bar (pictured) which we all appreciated with a variety of good coffees (including a decent decaf), creams/milks and flavored syrups. We were all over the moon (because we all needed the caffeine, and we didn't have to settle for just ok coffee).
Between us we had pancakes, French toast, the Wisconsin omelet and a Mexican frittata, and each of them were delicious, including the side greens with my omelet. Not overly fussy, but definitely fresh ingredients and perfectly seasoned.
But the cherry on top of all the other good experiences was the fantastic service we got. The server was running the entire restaurant and he was friendly, professional and funny! I left feeling like I wanted to come back just because I enjoyed his service- making jokes with my kids and making sure we were taken care of- so much. I've also rarely had such good service, and would absolutely recommend The Post to anyone visiting Madison! I hope you try it and I hope your experience is as great...
