In-N-Out is usually pretty consistent. I love that they have a simple menu; they do burgers & fresh cut fries, & they do them well. You know what they say, "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" Our family has ate at I-n-O for nearly half a century & I noticed a slight gradual change over time. I never said anything to anyone about it, but this last time my kids, grandkids & friends we were with said, "something has changed, but couldn't really pinpoint what it was. It just isn't the same simple, great meal anymore. Don't get me wrong, everyone ate every morsel right down to the fry tray & cheesy paper. It's still the best burger chain "in & out" there😉, but they're not the same. Are we going to stop eating at I-n-O??? Probably not, because they still taste better than the not so 'golden arches' or any other burger slingin' chain. The employee who work there are always polite & happy to greet you & genuinely seem grateful for your business. And I'm talking about ALL I-n-O restaurants. The iconic white uniform with the red apron attached with a giant safety pin tells us all that we're about to eat the best fast food burger & fries that the US has to offer. Also, kudos for you for paying your employees higher than minimum wage, that says a lot about your integrity! By the way, if you're going to go back to the way it was, do it just as subtlety & slowly as the changes were done, that way you won't lose any of your millennial customers. This is not to be read as a bad review, just a bunch of us folks who love In-N-Out, & noticed over time-a few things are not as they used to be. Nothing but love for...
Read moreIt was late in the evening, the sky already darkening as I rolled into In-N-Out. I had hitherto recently hiked a slightly obscene distance through a nearby national park, and was exhausted and starving. The bright cheery interior of the small shop greeted me warmly as I staggered through the doors, the smell of cooking and frying food making my mouth water. I waited in line for a couple minutes, and watched the other customers ordering their food. The wait was appreciated, as my mental faculties were exhausted, and ordering several of the six or so basic items on the menu required patient thought and deep concentration. Eventually, I walked up to the counter and ordered a hamburger and fries, onions included. The girl at the counter took my order and money, and I sat and watched as the cooks prepared the food. In the bare minute I waited, I grew hungrier and hungrier, and wondered if ordering the double-double would have been a wiser course of action. My mind said that I really didn’t need the thick delicious wonderful double-double, and would be satisfied with the reasonable sized generic hamburger, but deep down in my heart (or maybe my stomach) where it really mattered, I wished I had chosen differently. Then I heard my number called out, and was shortly involved in devouring the food I had ordered. Appetite quenched with the delicious food I have since grown to expect from In-N-Out, I...
Read moreTried this chain’s burgers for the first time in my life a couple of days ago as two people told me I should try the burgers. I had very high expectations. Unfortunately, right from the first bite I knew that these burgers do not hold a candle compared go Shake Shack’s burgers, at least from NYC. I was instantly and precipitously let down by these cheeseburgers.
There was simply no contest. And this is not an exaggeration, I promise. The level of perfection are worlds apart.
The patties were so thin and not juice at all. The burgers were edible and easy to eat, but fully forgettable. Well, the only thing memorable about them was of how simple, forgettable, and non-repeatable they were.
You know when you eat something and you want to eat it over and over and over again? Well, this chain’s cheeseburgers are not it.
Unfortunately shake shack is kind of far (~50+min drive one-way) from where I am temporarily staying in CA, so I can’t try the shake shack in CA to compare to NYC.
But disclaimer: even among shake shack restaurants, not all have the highest level of perfection.
Thankfully I had a backup plan and bought chic fil A chicken sandwiches to eat in case the IN-N-Out burgers did not live up to her hype, which they did not.
Conclusion: food is edible and...
