We finally visited this restaurant, and loved it! We'll be back.
The place has a very casual atmosphere, with minimal wall decorations. The interior is simple, clean, and orderly. Clearly, the focus is on the food. My wife and I shared an order of 12 dumplings, a bowl of borsht, and a beet salad. It was plenty of food for the two of us.
Menus are available near the entry, leaving us wondering if we should wait for a server to visit our table, or order at the counter (which was vacant when we entered). A very pleasant woman soon appeared, and visited our table after delivering a meal to a neighboring table. Service was prompt, efficient, and friendly.
Our food arrived within the promised time. Everything was delicious! A neighboring table was enjoying a Russian Cake for dessert. When asked about it, they said that it was even better than the Marvel Deli (another East European place that we like).
The menu has a variety of Russian/Polish items, as well as some standard American fare. Prices end in "0", which I love. The tricks with "99" or "95" that are common elsewhere are very annoying to me.
Our two beet-heavy items (borsht and the beet salad) had the expected effect of coloring our digestive system outflow. Don't be alarmed. Here's an update. I normally review the KC Health Dept's inspection results before visiting a restaurant. I failed to do so here, but it didn't matter. This is a fairly new restaurant. They've had three inspections. Two were awarded "goose eggs" (0 points), and one had one 3-point violation. These are extremely enviable records -- far better than some very expensive restaurants where we've dined. I like to patronize establishments that try hard to not poison me.
Good food, good service, good health practices -- what's not to like? How can I give...
Read moreThe moment you walk in you will immediately feel the warm and cozy cabin esque atmosphere. To top it off, the food is great too!
The dumplings are great. You get to choose from 4 styles of dumplings and a variety of fillings. It's a little overwhelming with the amount of combinations you can choose from but, that just means we'll have to come back. Dumpling wise, you'll have to try the Buffalo & Classic styles with any of the meat fillings. So good! I enjoyed the Loaded style Dumpling with the potato & mushroom filling but the Buffalo and Classic were where it's really at!
Then there's the peirogies.. You have to try the meat peirogie's!! The pierogies are juicy, savory & wrapped in a soft but flaky croissant-like dough. Heaven! Seriously, you don't even need the sauce it's served with.
We went during their happy hour (3-5pm I think, but don't quote me on it). They had a special where you buy 1 large draft beer and get 12 dumplings free! A great deal if you ask me.
There's nothing like Alaska N Dumplings in the Maple Valley area and a pleasant surprise. A great addition, but it just opened a week ago. The potential is definitely there. I look forward to coming back and exploring the rest...
Read moreFirst time ordering here... ordered 12 Alaskan classic, potato cheese & bacon dumplings, 18 loaded, potato & mushroom dumplings, 18 loaded beef & pork dumplings, a meat pierogi and a potato and cheese pierogi... We recieved 18 potato cheese &bacon dumplings in butter with Alaskan classic seasonings, no vinegar. 18 potato and cheese dumplings in vinegar, butter, sriracha with cheese, bacon and parsley (just gross to expect savory buttery and end up with vingary spicy), 18 beef and pork dumplings in buffalo style...a potato and mushroom pierogi as well as the desired potato and cheese pierogi.... this was mostly just GROSS to all of us since they mixed up sauces and seasonings between dishes, and didn't give us the correct dumplings or pierogi for the most part. I don't know what went wrong, we ordered as Take out and the order taker almost forgot to get my name for the order. It would be hard to give them a second chance when they failed on so...
