I’ve worked in the service/restaurant industry for most of my life, and am always understanding of “one offs” or “less than stellar quality food”. Because of this, I typically choose not to leave a review at all if I don’t feel inclined to give a full five stars.
I chose to ate here based on the good reviews they have received, and boy did I regret it.
While the service was good, and I’ve contemplated even writing this for a few days because the server was great, and I’d hate to hinder their ability to make money, it was hands down the most awful food experience I’ve ever had.
I’ve lived all across the country and in other countries and I’ve dined at many restaurants. I’ve had both good and bad experiences. I’m going to double down and say, this was the worst food experience I’ve ever had.
The soup and the gyoza were good. Both items that probably weren’t house made. But if they are, that chef should have more impact in the rest of the menu.
My spicy salmon roll lacked any spice, was fishy, the rice was stale, and I couldn’t finish it. The steak and shrimp hibachi with fried rice that my husband ordered arrived with bland soy sauce doused rice that lacked any flavor other than “fridge”. The steak was tender, I’ll give them that, but it was barely cooked and the shrimp was rubbery. The vegetables all tasted like rotten onions, and were extremely off putting.
Immediately after leaving the restaurant, both my husband and myself suffered severe indigestion, and I won’t go into detail because, gross… but let me just say… gross.
I will never be back, and I hope that my review reaches some poor unfortunate soul who might have been coerced into going here based solely on their great reviews. AND I hope that they seriously evaluate their kitchen equipment or something because that fish and entire...
Read moreMy husband and I have always had really good experiences here which is the only reason I have 2 stars instead of 1. My husband got off early today and we decided to go to lunch for our anniversary. We went in at 2:30 on December 7th. When we walked in it looks like the waitress and one of the servers were eating, she looked very displeased to have to get up to serve us, she didn’t even greet us. She brought us our menus and asked us what we wanted to drink. My husband and I ordered Diet Coke and miso soup to start, she then just walked away from the table without saying anything. She brought us our drinks and our miso soup and then walked away again without saying anything. While we were deciding what we wanted we realized that the miso soup had no tofu in it so we decided we didn’t want to pay $3 per bowl for just broth. When she came back to take our order I told her “we’d like to send this back it has no tofu in it” she didn’t even acknowledge me, we then placed our order and i again stated that “we don’t want this soup” and she just walked away again and without acknowledging me or taking the soup. I then called after her and said “did you hear me?” To which she said “yes I heard you”. At that point my husband and I had already felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable that we decided to just pay for our diet cokes and leave. I told her that her customer service was horrible. We received no apology as we paid and left. I can’t remember the last time I had such a bad experience at a restaurant which is very disappointing because we really enjoy the sushi at this place. I however will not be dining there if that...
Read moreWe saw the sign and read a few reviews so we decided to stop in for lunch. We read one review stating it's the "best sushi in Marble Falls". I like Marble Falls but they simply don't have the draw or demographics for a truly amazing sushi restaurant.
We started off with a seaweed salad and house salad. The seaweed salad was good, but it's hard to make a bad one. The house salad was disappointing. They advertise it as having a ginger dressing but it was more like a mayonnaise dressing or even ranch. But definitely not a ginger dressing. It's odd because if they don't want to make it, they could buy Makoto Ginger dressing (the best in our opinion) and use that.
We ordered the Hamachi nigiri just to try the sushi and we had a few rolls. For rolls we did a traditional Philadelphia roll, a Crunch roll and rainbow roll. The Hamachi is disappointing. It's fresh but the quality of the fish was just fair to say the most. I don't know where they get their fish from, but this is not top grade fish by any means.
On the other hand, the rolls were quite good. Granted, the Crunchy roll is fried and the Philadelphia roll has smoked salmon so you aren't eating fresh raw fish and you can use just about anything. The rainbow roll was average at best.
The service here is good and it's a nice clean restaurant. If you are simply getting rolls, this is an okay place to visit. But if you want high quality fish like you can find in many sushi restaurants in Austin... you will be...
