My wife and I get sushi every Tuesday and since our go-to, Kuma, in Wynnewood changed hours and no longer offer lunch, I decided to try Kawa since its highly rated on google. Now - I have had everything from Wegman's supermarket sushi, to top James Bearde award winning Royal Izakaya and in between. This, unfortunately, is the worst sushi place I have ever been to in my 15 years of eating sushi.
I got the sushi lunch 3 roll special. Philly roll (loose roll with salty lox type salmon, cream cheese, and past prime cucumber), Alaska roll (loose/sloppy and flavorless yet soapy!), and shrimp tempura (not too bad). I could only eat the shrimp tempura as the others were inedible with my Alaska roll tasting like soap!! As im typing this, my stomach hurts...Oh, I also got a "salad" consisting of a few peices of lettuce and 1 half slice of tomato. Please, its better they dont serve that sorry salad to customers.
I really, truly, hate to be so harsh on them as I only review when a place is amazing or terrible, and this place clearly falls in the latter.
My wife was ok with 2 of 3 of her rolls, hence the 2 stars, though she noted that it was subpar and we try somewhere else. Needless to say, I will never...
Read moreBest sushi in the area! After moving to the area from the city back in 2014, one of the hardest things for us was the lack of good local restaurants, particularly sushi. After trying 4 or 5 local places during out first couple years, we gave up on our hopes of finding good local sushi. When a friend recommended this place, we were skeptical and I told him "good sushi places simply don't exist in Delco." Well, I lost my bet with him.
This is now our go-to sushi place. Their fish and seafood are incredibly fresh and of great quality. The sushi rolls are much larger compared to other local places and we really enjoy their special rolls. Some of our favorite raw rolls include Pikachu Roll, Summer Roll, and Kawa Roll. We also really enjoy their miso soup and sashimi (raw fish w/o rice). While we have tried several of their hibachi bento boxes for our daughter, we have not been impressed with any of them.
We really enjoyed the dine-in experience prior to the pandemic and also impressed with their take-out. While our favorite sushi places are still in the city and in South Jersey, this is the best sushi in the area and we recommend any sushi lovers to try...
