Absolutely the worst Chinese food I have ever ate. I am new to North Carolina and seen this place had a decent rating and reviews on Google so I thought I would try it out. The sweet heart behind the counter took my order of the lunch sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and that was the most enjoyable part of this experience. Well she called me up for my food and I took it with some soy sauce back to the hotel. Well I opened it up and was surprised that the meal was small as to the portions. Every Chinese place I have been too has the same white container so I was expecting it to be filled like every other place I have been to but it was not. Only received one scoop of RICE not fried rice as I was expecting; the fried pieces of chicken only filled about half of the main course portion of the container. Well that was not the end of it; when I started to eat the chicken the fried breading was hard like it had been over cooked and there was not any natural flavor so I had to douse it in soy sauce as I did with the rice. Not only that but half the chicken pieces did not even contain any chicken; it was just fried batter. What pieces that actually did have chicken were dry and rubbery. The fried egg roll that was included with the meal was the same overcooked and lacking in flavor. Every other place I have been to I was not hungry after I ate the meal with this one I was. As a result due to the due the the lack of flavor, lack of meal size and overcooked food I have no choice to give this place 1 star and if I could give it a negative rating I would. I guess now it is time to make a trip to McDonalds or Burger King to get some extra food to fill me up. By the way I am not a big guy either only 5 foot 6...
Read moreFor the eighteen and a half years I've been eating at this restaurant and ordering the beef with broccoli, non spicy, with extra white rice every time, trust me when I write this - this is the place to eat at. I've never found another place like Chen-Fu, where the food is just phenomenal. There is no other Chinese-American restaurant like this one. I've been able to convert some of my friends, who are not huge Asian food fans, to being a fan of this take on Asian food. The food here is like no other. The sauce in which the broccoli and beef are cooked in is amazing, not sweet, more of a savoury flavor. The mixture of broccoli, beef, and the sauce are taste bud-overwhelming. The rice is cooked and steam to perfection, I'm picky about my rice and this is the only restaurant in which I am in love with the rice. A nice small Mom-and-Pop restaurant. Every time my family and I visit, we are met with familiarity and warmth. Chenda and/or Sonya will greet us at the counter and will write down our order without us having to say so. Then Tony will wave to us from the kitchen. While we wait for the food, Sonya will come and chat with us and everyone else in the restaurant. Catch up with customers. Then she will deliver our steaming plates of deliciousness and, instantly, I am in heaven. I definitely implore anyone to come to Chen-Fu and experience just wonderful food. Even now with being over a hundred miles away, I still go at least once a month...
Read moreNot sure why the high reviews. Food was just beneath okay and well overpriced for what they serve. We got beef and broccoli. As well as Hunan shrimp. Beef and broccoli were okay. The beef wasn’t as tender as we are used to. I’ve never had Hunan shrimp made with baby shrimp, and not alot of shrimp. The shrimp were tiny and overcooked. Because of the sauce (brown soy sauce type sauce) I couldn’t even see the shrimp amongst the abundance of water chestnuts. The sauce was the same brown sauce as the beef and broccoli and it wasnt good. The shrimp also wasnt spicy, at all. We got this place because our normal spot was closed and today’s was my gma bday and she wanted Chinese. I made the error of going off the Google reviews and I should not have. Buyer beware. Find the reviews with 3 stars and below, they are more representative of what you can expect. Worst Chinese food in the area. Everything was dark brown and overcooked. Ive never had brown...
