Server was awesome, 8 in our group and more than that in the tables next to us, all handled by the same server and he didn’t miss a beat. He even bussed our table as we cleared off some plates. Very different than my experience below. Good service makes a world of difference!
Previous review: Daughter and grandkids took me here today for Fathers Day(2022). We did a large cookout yesterday at my daughter’s a day early. I wanted to keep the mess to a minimum at her house (and ours lol) so I chose Azteca. Never had a bad meal there and it’s close to home. But hard for me to pick a Mexican place when married to an American of Mexican descent that cooks way better and more authentic than the Mexican restaurants around. Aside from that, we got there and sat outside and while waiting for grandson to arrive I noticed a lady come out of the restaurant with a lit cigarette 😳. Until I read other reviews I had no idea any place in America still allowed smoking indoors. So my grandson arrived after we ordered and our server was MIA (not his name, old military reference for "missing in action"). The rest of us had our food. My grandson went inside, asked a different server to place him an order and told/showed her where he was sitting and it never happened. Food never arrived. Our server showed up so he mentioned it to him and the order arrived finally. Hate to say it, I feel todays server had no desire to serve food. Not one of us was offered a refill. Read moreI rarely review any type of restaurant. But I knew this had to be my first. I visited Azteca on a Saturday night, so with that in mind I was more understanding with the situation. I ordered an à la carte burrito, for I wasn’t that hungry. It came out and I ate it. It wasn’t great but it was edible. I finished my meal and got my bill. I noticed I was charged for Burrito Deluxe. I did not order a burrito deluxe and it was two dollars extra. I told our waiter that he must’ve made a mistake and he agreed with me. He went to the owner asked if he could fix the mistake and she said no that is the up charge for meat. I was with seven other people at my table, some ordering steak grilled chicken and shrimp and none of them were ever upcharged. I explained this to him and he agreed that it was his mistake. He goes again to the owner and tells her that he made a mistake and to charge me correctly. She was very rude and did not want to charge me for my correct meal. I told her that I shouldn’t get an up charge for canned chicken as for the others in my group not getting charged for their meat items. I told her that I shouldn’t be paying for someone else’s mistake. She didn’t wanna listen to me and rolled her eyes several times and breathed heavily after every word I said. My dine in experience was horrible, and I’m sharing it so that others who visit Azteca can know the right questions to ask so they won’t be surprised when their bill comes out because the practices they are using is not a practice I understand nor agree with.
My complaint is NOT about the money, but the principal of which the way they handled me. If they know their prices have changed, then why would they give you an old menu to order from, with no disclosure that the prices are not accurate!? When the check came and the price was different, they brought out a different menu that had correct pricing and also said the door said our prices are subject to change. I then asked why didn’t we get the updated menu when we were seated and she said the menu hasn’t been changed in 8 years, and they are working on it, but lady… you are showing me new menus. I understand everything is going up… I’m good with the increased price because I understand business, but don’t treat me like a bait and switch. Then the sign on the door says “due to a shortage of beef and chicken prices are subject to change.” The manager had the nerve to be nasty like I was in the wrong for inquiring about being charged a different price than what I saw in the "old" menu.
