Honestly On the Border is delicious....the ones up in Houston because this place is not on that level. It's located inside the Hilton...when I took my wife it was lunch time and it was dead. However, the food was slow. The one thing OTB is known for is it's chips and salsa...and it didn't disappoint. The chips were nice and hot...the salsa was tangy, fresh, and the perfect start. So we ordered the queso w/ chile as well...and it took nearly 25 min to get it. The waitress was actually quite nice... attentive...BUT she forgot the queso. Its already premade....she just has to go over and have a cook pour it into a cup. We finished the whole basket of chips...she brought us more...but no queso. I then told my wife I was going to cancel the queso since our food should be coming out and we were already getting full on just chips....and guess what happened, she overheard me talking about it which reminded her and then she finally brought it...after we already had our fill of chips. Mind you...the queso was bomb...great consistency, good spice, nice and hot, perfect. But after eating a whole basket of chips already...we couldn't enjoy it. And now to the main course...I'm not even going to describe each item. The food LOOKS good...but it's bland. It feels all premade....for example, the enchiladas I had. The sauce was already stuck to the tortilla, it didn't feel like it was just freshly poured on. The empanadas were not piping hot...you'd imagine they'd be hot to the touch since they're deep fried. The most surprising thing was the fajita, delicious flavor, but warm. You got places like a Chili's and they bring you the sizzling plate...the fajita was just cooked and it was only warm to the touch? Where was the sizzle? I feel like everything is premade early and then just kept warm until ordered....not a winning combination. ...oh, and the waitress brought us a michelada that we hadn't ordered...since the place was drop dead I'm sure it was hard to know what table had ordered it right? Leaving this place I have to admit was one of the biggest disappointments...go for the chips and salsa...or buy them at HEB and save yourself the bill.

Hubby and I came here for a late lunch. He told me that it’s TexMex food. I ordered the Carne Asada and iced tea, while he ordered Chimichangas and white russian (drink). We were seated in a booth near a family with bery young kids, one of which was just having a bad day and just loudly cried. Hubby and I requested for a quieter spot coz we just want to enjoy our Saturday, which was on a great start. When the food came, oh man! The food was so yummy. The carne asada was well seasoned and marinated, so it wa filled with flavor. It was served with mexican rice and some sautéed onions and bell peppers. Hubby enjoyed his chimichangas. He gave me a piece, and it was crunchy and filled with flavor. Personally, I like TexMex food a lot. Some may not like it. But this is a must place to try. If you’re going, just a heads up, this place is a bit pricey. My Carne Asada was around $19 and I think it’s the same for the chimichangas. Although the food is very good and the serving is good for 1 person, I think it’s still pricey. Maybe because of inflation or maybe because it is situation inside the Hilton Hotel near the Mcallen Convention center. It is a very nice restaurant in a very good location.

Went yesterday with the whole family. The service was not great, two out of 6 of orders came out wrong multiple times. Staff does not know their own menu. Our drinks were incorrect. We had to ask multiple staff members for drinks, waters, etc. Decided to give it another shot today with a pick up order - I repeated my order multiple times to the staff member, and it still came back incorrect. I've worked in a restaurant before, so I understand how difficult it can be sometimes - but when there's only one table and more than 6 people on the floor these mistakes should not be happening. Very disappointing. The food was not even intact when I got home because of how poorly it was packaged. :( Edit: came back and received amazing service, the food came out quickly and perfectly and we were well taken care of. Forgot to take a picture of the food before we ate it all because it was so delicious! But I added a photo of the margarita I enjoyed! Definitely redeemed themselves! :)

The tacos are delicious, they use the tortillas cut in half to make the chips which were too thick and overcooked. We had a hostess waiting on us who, totally forgot our drinks and forgot half our order and she didn't write anything down. The flautas were so overcooked that when we bit into them they disintegrated into pieces, and there was like charcoal in the center instead of chicken tinga. We ordered the happy hour margaritas and we ended up getting the $4 Margaritas without our knowledge, even when I questioned it and said these look too big to be the $3 margaritas, and then our bill came and it was $4. This place is fantastic and the food could be magnificent if everybody was paying attention to what they are doing, and if there was more training on the floor.. I hope they keep this happy hr going it's still worth it! I drive 45 minutes to get there and I will still do that. I tipped 20% anyway just because it looks so slow I wasn't sure they didn't even make any money that day, and having been in the business all my life I felt...
