Disappointing Anniversary & Valentine’s Day Dinner
We dined at Rupert’s on Valentine’s Day, having made reservations in advance to celebrate both the holiday and our three-year anniversary. We were visiting McCall with friends who are local to Idaho and were excited for a special night out—unfortunately, the experience was anything but special.
From the start, service was painfully slow. Our server was constantly missing, making it difficult to even order drinks. When my husband (then fiancé) finally received his Moscow Mule, it was the worst he had ever tasted. After a long wait to see our server again, he asked for it to be fixed, but all they seemed to do was add more ginger beer, which didn’t improve the taste. To make matters worse, it was served in a pint glass, which was just odd.
The food was underwhelming at best. My filet was completely bland—barely even salted—and was one of the most disappointing (and overpriced) steaks I’ve ever had. I couldn’t even eat it, so my fiancé ended up finishing it. My friend also ordered the surf and turf special, requesting her steak medium rare, but it arrived medium well and even well-done in some spots. After waiting 25 minutes just to find our server again, she was told they were out of the dish entirely and had to order something else.
To top it all off, the fork I received, rolled inside my napkin, was horrifically dirty. Given how difficult it was to get assistance, I ended up trying to clean it myself and just used it. At that point, it felt like too much of a hassle to ask for a new one.
By the end of the meal, we were beyond frustrated. Drinks were forgotten, the food was subpar, service was almost nonexistent, and even basic cleanliness was an issue. I have never spent so much money on a meal that felt so utterly worthless. While I plan to return to McCall and explore other restaurants, I will never be back...
Read moreMy wife and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary today in McCall and came to Rupert's for dinner based on the Yelp reviews. We were able to make reservations for 5 pm.
When we arrived, we were seated at a very nice window facing the lake, an excellent start. Shortly thereafter, a party of six were seated across the aisle from us. Their tall, dark haired, male server came almost immediately and began taking their drink orders. Meanwhile, we were still waiting. Our young female server eventually came and we declined drinks and ordered our food. For appetizers, the olives and a basket of bread. For entrees, the flat iron steak and the salmon. The steak came with mixed vegetables, including snow peas, and potatoes in a wine gravy. Very good, though one side of the steak was a little burnt. The salmon was grilled, crispy on the outside yet moist and flaky on the inside. Very tasty. It came with a vinaigrette salad and an artichoke tapenade. Yummy. Since we let them know that it was our anniversary, they brought a complimentary small brownie with a sparkler, a nice touch.
I take one star away for the service. Though our server was nice, she was not particularly attentive. After she took our order, a runner delivered our appetizer and our entrees. She stopped by once to check on us and, later, brought the brownie. But, she was not around much for us. In fact, we got tired of waiting for her to come and let us settle our bill, and went to the front to pay. We found her standing around, chatting with another worker. In contrast, the tall, dark haired, male server was very attentive to the other table...
Read moreI made this reservation at the end of January of 2023. The reservation was for March 10. We got there about 15 minutes early so we could have a cocktail at the bar. That was nice. But when we were seated, our waitress was soft spoken. It was hard to hear since it was so busy and loud. Then she was hardly around. She did not even deliver our entrees. The host who sat us said, “I see it is someone’s birthday!” I said yes. He said that he would let our server know. She either wasn’t told or forgot. So, then, I get my steak and I ordered it medium-well. It came medium-rare. I wasn’t going to send it back because our waitress wasn’t ever around to talk to. Then she finally comes and asks us for dessert, we order dessert and we’re then charged for the dessert. No acknowledgment of a birthday or anything. She then brings the Cheque and then I time her to see when she will come back to get the Cheque. I look over and she’s socializing and polishing glasses. It was almost 15 minutes for her to come and get the Cheque. TIPS stands for: To Insure Prompt Service. I’ve been a server and bartender so I know the ropes. We were not charged for the cocktails at the beginning of the evening so I guess that was the birthday acknowledgment. Long story short, service was slow and we felt non-important. This is not the Rupert’s we are used to. Seems to be a lot of running around and not a lot of great delivery. ...
