(I know this is a bit long....bear with me...it's all good) Today was my first time at Kirby G's Diner. I had waited a very long time to finally be able to go since we're up in Atlanta. I have been following them on Instagram for about a year but today we had an opportunity to go. And I was double excited because their burger that won them the 2018 World Food Championships was available this week! The Chunky Guacamole Burger with Candied Bacon.
First let me say this place has a really great retro diner vibe. Cool old photos and knickknacks are everywhere. The black and white checkered floor, the red vinyl booths and black and silver bar stools and the regular tables...all very cool. The girl who waited on us could not have been nicer or more efficient. I am sorry I didn't catch her name but she did a great job!
Now for the food: We split an appetizer of Mr. Green Jean's Beans, battered and deep fried green beans served with ranch dressing. Then my wife ordered the Crosby's Chicken Salad and I ordered the The Chunky Guacamole Burger with Candied Bacon with fries. Everything was really good and freshly prepared. But when my burger came, it didn't look like the photo on their Instagram site. It seemed there was a good bit less guacamole than is normally served with this burger. To be fair, it turns out they have a 2/3 lb. burger (mine was 1/3) so maybe you get more on the bigger burger? If that's the case, I understand but wish I had thought about ordering the larger one. I had that photo from their IG site seared in my head and was expecting that. Having said that, the burger was excellent. I mean, really good. That guacamole was the best I've ever had and the candied bacon really added to it. My wife loved her salad, too.
We will definitely go back and spend a little more time. I'd love to try their shakes or take advantage of that cool full bar in the back.
My recommendation to anyone wanting to order the The Chunky Guacamole Burger with Candied Bacon is make sure you are aware there is a larger size so you can get all the goodness you possibly can! But even if its not on the menu when you go, there is a lot of great sounding food on there to...
Read moreMy husband and I went here for our belated Valentine's Day date. We had never been here before, but it looked like some good food.
We get there, and there is one other gentleman waiting (for a table or a pickup order. I don't know). He shares the same skin tone as my husband. My husband and I are seated. We order our drinks, a lemonade and a water. Another group of four gets seated next to us. We order our food, one burger and one chicken sandwich. We note the decor to each other, which is nice and seems fun. I note that the date keeper behind the bar is wrong, as it says your birthday has to be before "This day 2001". Obviously, it's 2025. So, they are a bit off. It makes me chuckle. Then the group of four orders their food. My husband and I continue to talk and chat. The table to our other side finishes their food and tells the waitress they are ready for her to put in their To-Go order. My husband and I continue to talk about life and things. A water refill is brought for me, because I am nearly done with the first. I thank her. The group of four is brought their food, four burgers. My husband and I start flipping through a newspaper we found, and we talk about what movie we want to watch at home that evening. Then I note to my husband that I can't see anyone behind me, but everyone I can see in front of me matches my skin tone, not his. He lets me know that everyone behind me also matches mine. We check the time. We have been sitting there for 45 minutes. The group of four is finishing up their food, and the table to our other side is being brought their To-Go order. I ask him how long before we just leave. He is okay waiting another 15 minutes. We start sitting uncomfortably, because now we are in quiet agreement of what we believe is going on. After 5 more minutes, I tell him I want to leave. I point out this is our Valentine's Day date, and I want us to have nothing but a good time together. He agrees. We put a $20 on the table and leave to eat somewhere else, and I can say the food at the other place...
Read moreWe came to KirbyGs looking for some burgers and nice place to sit with the family. It’s a cute vibe and everyone working was very friendly. Our waitress was above and beyond. It was our first time coming. The menu is very confusing. The layout of the prices compared to the bill do not make sense and when I asked about it she explained it to me, which then it made sense but she commented about how this is a normal question everyone seems Confused about lol. We didn’t mind how long it took for our food as we see it as quality takes time and so does fresh. So the time it took was long but expected and not a problem at all. Our biggest complaint is the food. The only thing that was good was the flavor of the beef patties and the crispness of the French fries. I do love a breaded fry. The coleslaw was not really cold and it has obviously sat for sometime. It was so soggy and flavorless and soupy. The tomatoes on our burgers were so waterlogged and old there was no flavor to them At all so we just took them off because. I got the 1/3 pimento burger and their patty was so small that my child’s slider was the same size as the patty for $17. IIt was so over cooked and dry and I went off their chart of doneness and ordered a medium. Inflation happened for sure but what we paid for was not the quality of food that should've been expected. Now if the quality matched the prices there would be no complaint. We were going to get milkshakes but after seeing our food we were nervous about that as well. We came at 1230 after they open at 1130 and we were the only ones in there when we got there. When we left other families had sat down. My biggest advice would be to just compost the old veggies and toss out the coleslaw after a few days. Quality control is the biggest issue. Other than that we will try again in a few months! I hope this doesn't come off as mean or rude. We really wanted to enjoy this. Again everyone working was amazing and nice and we would come back just to be in their...
